I have recently been brainstorming for my college application essay and I was wondering if writing about my illness, Crohns disease, is a bad idea. My plan was to not dwell on the illness aspect of the situation but to focus on how the illness brought out a sense of bravery in me that I didn't know I had. I also planned on maybe mentioning how I am now a counselor at a camp for kids with Crohn's disease and can use my experience to help those kids. Basically I want to put a positive spin on a challenging event in my life and show how i was able to adapt and come out stronger. I can't decide if that's too cliché though..

Look around and find the Essay section of the forum. There are tips pinned to the top. It sounds like a good essay to me. It will explain the context in which you have had to operate in your life and what you have been able to make of it. Just don’t write cliche phrases and it won’t sound cliche.
