I am a freshman and my gpa is 3.9 I was wondering how my chances are for getting into UCLA,USC, UCSD and Pepperdine. My friends all have 4.00s and I want to go to college with my friends those are the 4 they are all going for. can I still go for these I do a small amount of extra curriculars also any tips for classes to take to stand out? Any tips will help I’m new to this.
As a Freshman, no one can realistically chance you. You only have 1 year of grades and classes under your belt, no test scores and no EC’s to speak of. My tips are take a rigorous HS schedule but do not overwhelm yourself and watch your grades drop. Get involved in EC’s that you enjoy and not for the sake of impressing a school. Take the PSAT and PLAN, Sophomore year, see which test you perform on better and then concentrate on either the SAT or ACT. Also see what majors you are interested in pursuing and find some EC’s that may be related along with SAT2 subject tests. Most importantly, enjoy your time in HS.
The UCs don’t consider freshman grades, so don’t stress about that one B you have. Do your best job going forward, get involved in a couple of activities that really interest you, and take a course load that challenges you without stressing you out.
I want to peruse language and psychology if I get good grades and take rigorous language classes like Spanish 5 and French 4 and AP Psychology and get good grades in those will that help me get in since that’s what I want to major in. Also I really want to go to UCLA or USC is this possible for someone out of state? Because I hear they accept a seldome amount of out of state applicants.
I meant to say I am a sophomore I don’t know how in the world I made that mistake!!! Thank you bringing this to my attention.
