<p>don't know the numbers (guessing it's similar to other LACs) but a picture was worth a thousand words. For my daughter, coming from a school which is 70% black, it's going to be a bit of a culture shock wherever she ends up.</p>
<p>Portland unfortunately is apparently the city of over 500,000 that is least diverse ethnically. However- as D has* added* diversity in her previous schools ( being blue collar & first gen & out in high school), that was familiar. ( as opposed to her sister who attended an inner city public- she is more interested in schools that have a visible mix of students)</p>
<p>If your daughter is interested in Reed, she should know that they do outreach & support for a broader based student body, as with the peer mentors.
Still the curriculum and small size make very self selecting and hard to get diversity if you don't already have it.
But if you do go visit, I suggest staying at the Crowne Plaza at the convention center- I have stayed there several times, very nice hotel and affordable even for us with web deals- and it seems to be the place to meet all the African American relatives of those in Portland.</p>
