College Interviews

Hi,
I submitted my Harvard and Princeton apps a few days ago and it’s possible that I’ll be requested to do an interview (Princeton asked my classmate to). If one of those schools does so, do I have to do it? I’m not very good at interviews, especially because of questions like “What do you like about X college?” , “Tell me about yourself,” and “What’s the biggest struggle you’ve had in high school?” Broad questions like those are just difficult for me to answer, for some reason. Also, Harvard and Princeton are towards the bottom of my college list (in terms of interest), so it’s not like I’ll be able to sound super passionate about wanting to go there like I would in a Stanford interview. What should I do if I get requested for an interview? I have good stats (2270 SAT, 35 ACT, 4.25 W GPA) and decent EC’s, so do I really need to do it? BTW, I know that I should “face my fear” and do the interview… but I don’t want to screw my chances up at one of those schools by not knowing how to respond to a question (which actually happened to me in my interview with my college counselor).

Thanks

If you aren’t super passionate about the schools, then why did you apply? There are thousands of kids applying for only a couple thousand spots. Why should admissions officers accept you over a student with similar stats who took the time to do the interview?
