what's the best major to have, assuming i'll apply to law school, or at least want the option? it's true that pre law is only a concentration (at most schools), right?

If you know for sure you want to go to law school, pick a major you will enjoy and be good at, plain and simple. You want to succeed and make as a high a GPA as possible to be a competitive applicant.

Pre-law is generally just a concentration, yes, if a school has it at all. It’s hard to prescribe a course of study that is “pre-law.” I guess you could combine some philosophy and reasoning with some criminal justice with some political science or history and some writing…but seriously, law schools mostly seem open to just about any major.

Law schools accept any major. That said, go do something that you can do well in and that provides you some actual salable skills. If law doesn’t work out, you’ll be a lot happier with something to fall back on. Whatever you do, stay away from “pre-law.”

okay, thanks!

does anyone mind saying what their major was? and the type of lawyer you are now?
