S18 got into the site today but was unable to get to any info. The site crashed right after he logged on. This is becoming comical.
Are there any OOS applicants (Dec. 1st deadline) who did not receive an acceptance yet, by e-mail or snail mail? My son received the e-mail about the OOS decision delay, but did not receive an acceptance e-mail. Last night, he was at a leadership event with students from several high schools. He spoke with a few that received an acceptance e-mail. However, there were four that were in the same boat as him. I understand that acceptance is not guaranteed. The surprising thing is that for these particular applicants, Charleston is considered a safe school. Is anyone able to access their accounts/website yet? We do not want to call and trouble admissions until the “new date” has passed. It sounds like they might have their hands full. Am really just looking to see if anyone else is going through the same circumstances etc. Is it possible they are notifying OOS in waves and not at the same time? Did they intend to send acceptances by e-mail? Did they realize a server problem after they began sending e-mails and stop? When we started seeing everyone’s acceptance posts we were anxious. A few days later, while comparing his offers from different programs, I’m more concerned that this confusion could be indicative of future communications from CofC. Thank you for your input!
I’m not sure what the confusion is @Sav42many . The deadline has not passed. Others have received their acceptances already, your son has not received his yet. I don’t see this as "confusion which could be indicative of future communications from CofC . And if I’ve learned nothing , there are no guarantees and “safe schools” aren’t always safe. You can always call admissions if you feel like there’s been an error.
We called admissions. They said notices are going out in batches this week but would not share how they have been put into batches (I asked if it was geographic or alphabetical or done by intended major). Hope that helps all of you who are expecting to hear this week. Patience is the word. They are coming!
Thank you, @Ellie456 . As I mentioned, I did not want to call before the deadline and inundate admissions. I am grateful that you shared your conversation. This is our “1st Rodeo.” Between CofC’s teaser posts requesting pictures of golden envelopes, forum posts referring to mail being sent out on different dates, and then learning of e-mail acceptances, we became confused with the process. When my nephews applied to their schools, decisions were all released at the same time. One of the conference parents contacted me and will appreciate learning this information. Once again, I thank you for your considerate response!
@Sav42many I’ve been dealing with the same issues. I haven’t received any communication from the school, including the email about the delays, past the application confirmation. I traded out to the school on Monday. They told me that sometimes school emails block CofC emails so I gave them another email. They also told my that they were able to see that my decision letter was in the mail and I should expect it in the mail by the end of the week. I hope this helps!
@Sav42many CofC admissions tweeted 10 hrs ago that more early action decisions are on the way. good luck!
Good luck to everyone!!!
Has anyone had any luck getting into the site? DD hasn’t tried again since that first day.
We received the email but no the gold envelope. Anyone OOS receive the actual snail mail yet?
My son did today.
@apraxiamom Congratulations! What state are you in?
Thanks. Georgia.
The week of 1/22 is over and no email or letter. :(( I guess there’s a slim chance there will be a letter in tomorrow’s snail mail (we’re in MD). Glad we’re not the only ones waiting, sigh.
Someone who was accepted, would you mind sharing your stats?
My son was 4.0 weighted, 1500 SAT. OOS.
deferred early action… 1240 SAT, 4.52 GPA, amazing ecs and 200+ community service hours, beyond confused with this decision
@greatestshowman 3.4 UW GPA and 1360 SAT. Many leadership positions. EC’s - 2 Sport varsity athlete, In school and out of school Musical theater productions, Mock trial, Jefferson Awards, Choir. OOS competitive private school
The same happened to me @graciology101 . Slightly lower GPA and higher SAT. 3 season varsity athlete, Model U.N. Captain, taking 2 AP Art Classes, Animal Rights Club President, Red Cross Club, Art Club, Head of a Yearbook Committee, and more. Beyond confused and disappointed.
@graciology101 and @carrotxcollege These deferrals make little sense when CofC says: " here’s what the middle 50 percent of freshmen accepted for fall 2017 looked like:
scored between 1080 and 1220 (in-state), and 1090 and 1220 (out-of-state) on the SAT.
scored between 21 and 27 (in-state), and 23 and 27 (outof-state) on the ACT.
had consistent academic achievement in the A/B range"
D (OOS) has stats of 1250 SAT, 3.7 ugpa, over a 5 wgpa, 11 APs, Excellent EC’s, LORs and essays. Yet, she was deferred. Unless they had so many applications that they deferred a lot without even looking at them!
It may be a case of Tufts Syndrome. They may believe that the school is being used as a safety. It may be related how they did on their essays . Did they demonstrate any interest in the school? Every year the caliber of student becomes more competitive .
