Could someone explain the difference between the two? I got into CoC, but my friend got into Letters and Sciences, which also offers chem. Are they the same thing, or do the have different GEs.

Chemistry major in CoC is more rigorous and intended for someone who wants to do research or teach at PhD level.

Chemistry in L&S is less rigorous requirements and intended for someone who wants to teach chemistry at the high school and community college level.

You can, however, take additional electives in L&S chemistry to end up with the same chemistry course work as CoC chemistry. Breadth requirements are also different between L&S and CoC.

Both majors require 4A, 4B, 112A, 112B, 104A, 104B, 120A, 120B. In addition:
CoC chemistry requires 125 or C182, one of 105, 108, 115, or 146, and 15 additional units of chemistry and allied subjects courses.
L&S chemistry requires one of 105, 108, 115, 125, C170L, or C182.
