I got into college of the holy cross but when I applied I did not submit my css profile and so I did not receive any money. The tuition is around 70,000 per year and I recently submitted my css profile and I am now on the “waiting list.” Is there a high chance if I go to this school that I will be able to get some money? Any rev recommendations for ways to help with the tuition whether it be talking the the financial aid office or Anthony? Please let me know!
Who is Anthony?
Unlike admissions, financial aid is not about convincing humans through eloquently pleading your case. It is about numbers, and almost entirely generated by computer.
You missed the initial deadline for submitting the Profile. Now you have done that. Is there anything else they need? W-2s, tax transcripts? You need to stay on top of your email and/or admissions portal and respond ASAP to anything they ask for. Then wait and let them do their job and generate an offer to you.
Obviously, the biggest thing impacting your “chance” of getting aid in whatever form is what your numbers on the FAFSA & Profile say.
But missing the deadline probably also is going to have some consequences in the end. As far as their computer was concerned, your not filing the Profile was the same thing as saying that you don’t need aid to attend. They have a FA budget and all their FA offers were computed and extended with the assumption that you wouldn’t need any. So now in order to compute a package for you they probably need to see how their acceptances and declinations are shaking out. If they are projecting their yield to be higher than normal and/or a higher percentage of kids with packages are accepting, then that might result in them having to offer you less than what they would otherwise have offered if your Profile had been filed on time, and vice versa.
But in the end, they are going to offer you what they can, and it’s going to be what it’s going to be.
There is a College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts. There is also a Holy Cross College in Indiana. Are you talking about the latter?
What alternatives do you have? Do you have a more affordable alternative?
When you say “tuition is around 70,000”, I assume that you mean that the total cost of attendance is about $70,000. To me this is a rather large amount to pay for an undergraduate education. There are a lot of very good colleges in the US, and more elsewhere.
In another thread you ask “Deciding where to go for a good pre-med program”. There are a very large number (hundreds) of universities in the US with very strong premed programs. Many cost a lot less than $70k per year, and if you start off spending this much, by the time that you finish medical school (if you stay on that path, most don’t) you probably will have spent well over $600,000.
I would be surprised if anyone here can tell you whether you will be able to get financial aid in spite of missing the deadline.
Sorry I meant to say anything*!
