Agree and they said that 2 weeks ago.
A lot of schools are leaning on their waitlists this year, since application amounts are higher, and with last year’s deferrals, etc, to help make their classes the size they want. Does anybody know how W&M has historically used their waitlist - do people actually get in from it? Just preparing and managing my child’s expectations at this point.
9-10%
for the class of 2023, even less.
Might be more this year though as colleges are having an impossible time predicting yield and so many kids applied to so many schools (more than normal)
Thank you for this. Seems torturous, just drags out the process. Would hope to just get decision and move on either way. Not sure child would agree.
If it is not ranked, is it just random, or who reaches out the most?
My D is leaning the same way. She was waitlisted at UCLA and accepted the waitlist. The UC’s don’t look at anything from senior year, grades or schedule. If you waitlist, they wish to see all that and fortunately my D had her best and most rigorous semester this past fall and continued those classes in the spring semester. Most every other school has all that info, so waitlists seem pretty random.
My understanding is that at a lot of schools, waitlists are not random. Instead, they are crafted with specific buckets in mind. Need more kids who play an instrument from the Midwest? Spaces have opened for URM? School could use a boost from male athletes from OOS that are full pay? It all depends on which accepted kids decline their offers, and how the school needs to fill in the gaps to craft their class (like casting a play).
And in schools that were need blind for admissions, they become need aware for waitlist. Full pay kids often have better chances of getting off a waitlist than kids who need aid. Good luck, everyone.
Cypher postcard arrived today with a nice note written on it. My daughter was already admitted as a Monroe Scholar on 3/5, but I wanted to post about this Cypher because it arrived ripped on one side and crunched on the other, as if it got stuck in a postage machine somewhere. That is to say, don’t lose hope if you haven’t received one. Not only do they only go out to a portion of accepted students, they go out only if your app was read early and they may have gotten delayed or lost in the mail. This one looks like it had a rough journey, and we all know the USPS has had a lot of issues.
Good luck to everyone waiting on their decisions.

Yes, the mail has been very wonky! I mailed a card on Jan 31st, my friend received it on March 13th!!
For those who would like to read more of an explanation about the Cypher cards.

This was posted 2/1/18 but mentions that cards will be sent weekly for the next few weeks. That is another reason why I think we should all take the USPS with a grain of salt.
Anyone have any speculation as to when decisions will be released? I was expecting them sometime yesterday or the day before, but I’m pretty certain they should be released sometime this week
Just read an IG reply from a day or two ago and they are holding to “RD notifications will be sent early April”.
What is “IG”? (all I can think is Inspector General - and I’m sure that’s not what you meant - lol!). Also, I thought their website said “by April 1”?
most schools when setting a date as “early April” end up releasing sometime at the end of march. Historically speaking, WM have released decisions right around now (March 21-25) so That’s why im curious
Just received financial aid award by email today.
RD notified of admittance as Monroe Scholar earlier this month.
My daughter just got an email saying she had an admission update in her portal. She is in and is a Monroe Scholar. She was just cleaning out her in-box and was totally surprised!
Congratulations!
