What do you guys know in relation to school culture. Is it really that cut throat?
S was also admitted with Monroe Scholar and 3K research stipend but I do not think anything else is awarded for that. Stats: 4.0uw, 36ACT 1590 SAT
Warrenless I hope your son also applied to some Ivies with those amazing scores!!!
@britlass Thank you but he wasn’t interested in any of the Ivies. He did apply to UChicago EA and has been accepted which is a top choice as well. He is waiting to see merit money for his schools to make the best decision he can.
@deennimer34 My D is currently a sophomore at W&M and I have never heard her refer to the atmosphere as cut throat. I have heard her say collaborative on more than one occasion.
I will say that it does seem that the student body takes academics seriously, and it will (OFTEN) be #1 priority over anything else. Marathon sessions in SWEM, especially around exams, are not uncommon, and you hear from time to time about wishing the student body was more supportive of sports events, etc. So you may see serious and intense but that doesn’t mean cut throat.
The student body also seems to be very service oriented and even keeled beyond that, despite the occasional red-handed or post-it noted TJ statue.
D is home for spring break, so if you all have any questions, feel free to ask and I will get her to respond.
@Catmatmc Glad to hear your daughter finds her experience to be positive.
Can you kindly ask her to elaborate on the long held beliefs here on CC that the College of William & Mary tends to have grade deflation and does she find the academic vibe on campus to be stressful.
thanks
@Catmatmc Thanks so much for your response! That’s really reassuring to hear. Also if it’s not too much trouble, would you mind asking her what the political diversity is like on campus?
