College of Wooster vs Harvey Mudd College

Which one is better?
I need reasons as well.

Do you like science a whole lot? Mudd is much better if so.

Mathematics.

That’s a good sign for Harvey Mudd! It’s one of the best places to do math in the country. College of Wooster I’m sure is respectable, but nowhere near the top.

Do you think you could hack the required science, CS and engineering courses of the Harvey Mudd core?

If so, then I would definitely recommend Harvey Mudd. It has a great math department, a totally unique high-charged atmosphere of nerdy fun, great weather (modulo the smog), great opportunities at the other Claremont Colleges, the highest average starting salary in the country by one measure a few years ago, and so many, many other great things going for it.

Harvey Mudd for science and engineering.

Harvey Mudd for sure in any STEM field.

Definitely Harvey Mudd

I’m a big proponent of Wooster but this isn’t much of a contest. Harvey Mudd is a STEM powerhouse.

I am sure that Wooster is good college but just for the numbers to compare College of WOOSTER SAT Scores Critical Reading 540 - 660 Math 540 - 660 Writing 540 - 660 ACT composite 25- 30 English 24-31 Math 23-28 Top 10% of HS 41% VS HARVEY MUDD Critical Reading 670 - 770 Math 740 - 800 Writing 680 - 760 Math 2. 760 - 800

ACT 33- 35 Top 10% of HS 88% Valedictorian or Salutatorian 38%. Admission rate for Mudd class of 2019 is 13%
So, it is not easy to get into Mudd. And 40% of graduate student go to Phd program. 60% student go to professional field with median starting salary of about $77,500 Good luck for your college search.

Harvey Mudd is a small college but it’s in the top 22 schools with the most NSF fellowships, ie more PhDs.

Mudd is the #1 most expensive collage in America. It’s a fantastic school for STEM, no doubt. Just hope if you attend, you get assistance

I bet you could do really well in Wooster and have money left over for graduate school.

^Very true. For math, Harvey Mudd is the superior school. What’s the net cost of both schools?

Harvey Mudd is well known for its strength in the STEM programs – that strength comes at a hefty price out of YOUR pocket. Wooster is a very good school where you can receive a solid education at a lower price.

Mudders earn bank when they graduate though.

Harvey Mudd has the largest ROI of all the liberal arts colleges. It is worth the extra $$.

However on a second thought do you want to be called a Mudder, autocorrect tends to turn it into an udder.

Harvey Mudd, no contest (and I like Wooster, but come on now).

A few years ago, I read somewhere that HMC is only third to MIT and Caltech in ranking the STEM programs, and having a brother that went to CMC, and two good high school friends that went to HMC,I can vouch for that statement…Good Luck…

MIT and Caltech are excellent and very well known institutes but they are Research University. Mudd offers only undergraduate program Liberal Art college. School believe STEM studies + Liberal Arts = Passionate Problem Solvers (make you well rounded students). My daughter fell in love at Mudd once she visited college. She will attend from this fall. Good luck for your college research.
