Okay, Update.
I got a 1400 on the august SAT. So what are my chances for Umich now?
Great job.
I would lean towards sending that score to U Mich, but defer to your HS GC. Have you talked with them? Are you thinking of applying to CS in LSA or COE? LSA probably is an easier admit. Navigate to the various considerations from this page:
https://cse.engin.umich.edu/academics/undergraduate/admissions/
Have you run the U Mich’s NPC yet? If not you do need to do that: Net Price Calculator
Have you researched any of the other school suggestions that posters have mentioned? Which ones appeal to you? (and you also have to run those NPCs)
Because your budget is relatively low, community college will be an option too. Right now U Mich CS is open to CC transfers. Here are the CCs that have articulation agreements with U Mich:
https://transfercredit.ugadmiss.umich.edu/ is the University of Michigan transfer credit database. Check to see whether University of Michigan accepts transfer credit from your local community colleges as equivalent to courses at University of Michigan that you need for your major.
CS major requirements are listed at Computer Science Major | U-M LSA U-M College of LSA . Some Michigan community colleges may not have courses accepted by University of Michigan for requirements for the CS major. For example, Wayne County Community College has only MATH 116 (but only through the end of 2022) out of the pre-declaration requirements for LSA CS: EECS 203 or MATH 465* or MATH 565*, EECS 280, MATH 115, MATH 116. So if you attend Wayne County Community College to transfer to University of Michigan CS, you would only be able to complete general education, and have to “catch up” on the prerequisites to the CS major after transfer.
