umass amherst didnt seem like too much of a financial reach and it was a good match(my test scores and gpa are fine there), but do you think they would be willing to give any money to oos students? From what you said I am assuming not, but I don’t know. I am also not applying to St Olafs because I don’t want to be in their music program ( I am not sure how serious i am about pursuing music in college) but I will definitely apply for music scholarships at schools where you don’t need to major in music for the scholarship.
I am also looking at Knox, Goucher, western washington, and puget sound
You have great ECs, you’re an URM , nice gpa and your test scores aren’t terrrible by any means.and you live on the west coast. Definitely add some reaches to your list. You never know. You might be considered a very desirable candidate.
^You don’t need to be a music major to be part of the musical ensembles at St Olaf. If you’re a good musician, it’d be a boost for admission and it’s better than Knox, Goucher, WWU, etc.
Umass, indeed, doesn’t even have enough FA for its instate residents.
my gpa is uw and I only have two ( one each semester) B’s and my uw is a 4.08 but all the classes that we take that are non ap count against us and I have taken at least 7 classes each year, not to mention my school offers few aps’s
I am looking at Denison! I am unsure about st lawrence
My D got into UMASS Amherst with a $8k scholarship/year OSS and had way lower stats than you, so maybe you could even get more. I was shocked when she received it. She didn’t end up going, but sometimes I kick myself by giving up the scholarship. It just ended up being too far away for her.
thats awesome! Yeah I am applying there and to a couple other schools like it. I actually want to go far away but I am worried about being homesick.
You will probably be homesick even if you move 2 hours away. My D did end up a few states away - just not quite as far as originally anticipated. Good luck!!
$8,000 off a $45,000price tag is not much, and it’s not guaranteed.
Have you run NPC’s?
Many middle class parents find costs above $25,000 difficult to pay and most families can’t pay their EFC.
Make sure you speak with your parents about costs.
Other than that, adding Smith, Mount Holyoke, Dickinson, Denison, perhaps Agnes Scott and Simmons, are good ideas.
Ok thank you. I I am not looking at womens colleges specifically, but I am doing that with my parents currently.
for me u mass is supposed to be 35,000 per year npc
which is expensive, as I have already automatically (sat/gpa) (and a diversity scholarship) qualified for two 6,000 scholarhships at my state university which would bring the price pretty low. However I do want to go out of state
Hi,
I was recently accepted to Reed. This was surprising, as my SAT was low in the schools range. Anyways, I was wondering if you thought I had any chance at Bates College? I really thought I had no chance and mainly applied because there was no supplement or app fee so there was virtually no work or cost for me, but I was wondering if this might have been unwise because the app rate is low (22%).
