College Search Process: Acting

Many colleges offer a theater program/degree but I am geared highly toward on-camera acting. I am wondering what schools have a program geared toward tv/film actors (in california). Also, should I even major in acting? I have been hearing a lot that tv/film actors do not need college training. So another path I was thinking about was to major in something like communications or business and act outside of school. Also, do college acting programs allow students to audition for jobs outside of school while enrolled? I heard somewhere that some schools don't allow outside auditions. I would like to audition for jobs while attending school, so this would be a problem for me! Please give me info on the programs at the listed schools, as well as other schools i should look into! Sorry for this long post....to sum it up
1. Interested in on-camera acting, not so much theatre (however I am a triple threat. i am just more interested in working on-camera)
2. California Schools
3. Should I major in something different and act outside of school?
4. Do most college acting programs allow students to audition for professional jobs outside of school?
5. Review my list and give me suggestions!
