<p>Is it acceptable to NOT WRITE your social security #? I was under the impression it was OK and sent most of my apps out w/o it. Is this a problem? </p>
<p>When I told one of my friends that he flipped out.</p>
<p>It says its optional, so its optional. It is useful for them to have, especially if you have a common name, but they won't penalize you for it.</p>
<p>They use it as an ID number and it makes it much easier for them... you probably should have sent it, but it probably won't hurt you or anything.</p>
