“… Bradley Campbell, a an associate professor of sociology at Cal State Los Angeles, said the movement is transforming society from a ‘dignity culture,’ in which people are taught to have thick skins and refuse to allow others to affect their sense of self-worth, to a “victimhood culture” that advertises personal oppression.” …
Group mental illness - A lost generation, drunk with narcissism, shepherded by academic cowards and progressive opportunists.
And yes I’m a minority who experienced REAL discrimination and violence back in the good old days where you were taught not to allow yourself to be defined by racist idiots.
Somehow I escaped “victimhood” status and still celebrate Columbus Day, say the pledge of allegiance, and have an american-african mixed son that knows his destiny isn’t destroyed by negative experiences of insensitive comments.
Oh and I identify with Fess Parker as Daniel Boone. hahaha
That context seems pretty clearly listed to me, and that one is nothing compared to the many other things he’s said. This thread has nothing to do with Trump anyways.
It’s easy to be successful when you inherit $45 million.
@Ultrhumanite’s post reminds me that in the early 60’s lunch counter protestors/integrators sat with cool dignity while racist names were hurled at them. It was those faces of pride and self determination that attracted sympathy to their cause.
^That’s because in the 1960s black people could get KILLED for doing anything else BUT sitting and taking it when people cursed them out and called them ugly names. Thankfully, I think as a culture we’ve evolved past the point in which people of color are expected to just “take it…with DIGNITY” when people offend their very sense of being. Or at least I thought we had.
As for excerpts, I prefer this one:
“In the last eight years, researchers have conducted more than 5,500 studies on the topic documenting how such seemingly minor slights harm student performance, mental health and work productivity, said Derald Wing Sue, a Columbia University psychology professor and leading expert on the topic.”
Oh, please. That college students can at times be way overdramatic was as true in the 1960s as it is today. This is hardly a new or unique situation. Also, the college student governments you see doing stupid things are very much the minority. The media doesn’t exactly report on colleges where nothing crazy is happening, and even where crazy stuff is happening, the majority of students aren’t involved.
REAL discrimination? Are you proporting that minorities don’t experience real discrimination today?
So, you ignore stupid things a handful of overdramatic college student governments say?
