college suicide

what are some of the reasons that students commit suicide in college?

Ask Cornell University. ._.

^Or Elizabeth Shin. But she’s dead so you may need to find a psychic to do that.

The reasons vary amongst individuals.

im just asking for some general reasons

I think that stress can be identified as an aspect that could lead an alternative individual to commit that action.

Actually, there was a thread about this in college life. Cornell has one of the lowest suicide rates of all the Ivies.

Anyway, most of the time it’s stress and clinical depression that leads to suicide, whether it is at a university or anywhere.

They should filter out those who seem high strung through the admission process. A lax’d personality with lower grades will clearly show on the essays.

Cornell’s overall rate might be low, but I think I read this year has been rough on them. I think they had three deaths in the past month. That’s probably what HopefulEagle was referring to.

Does people committing suicide in college have a lot to do with college? I mean people of all ages commit suicide, and some people are at college, so logically some people at college commit suicide.

i heard NYU has the highest suicide rate. don’t quote me on it though

Stress and the view of a bridge directly in front of you.

It is a social epidemic. College kids are impressionable and overly dramatic. One ******* jumps into a gorge (lot of picking on Cornell, yes?), then they all have to do it. Malcolm Gladwell wrote about this phenomenon in his book called “Blink”.

Cornell’s suicide rate isn’t even that high… It’s just that bridge makes people say stupid rumors about cornell.

two girls have commited suicide at my brother’s junior high this year! it’s not just a college thing.

Yeah. A kid in my fourth grade commited suicide, and so did one in my seventh. I think their “girlfriends” rejected them lol…

I guess it has a lot to do with your self perception and how susceptible to stress you are. Some people don’t have as high a tolerance for stress, and so they allow their self worth to be compromised, while others are a little less vulnerable. The thing about stress is that it builds up like hell, so people with a ton of stuff going on just have the stress piled on and on, and there’s no where else to turn to
