College tuition may steeply rise next year

Dear bleedblue12345,
Why go to College?

Two Words...

Human Capital.

The “Human Capital” of a country is essential to developing a flourishing economy. The “Human Capital” of a country is expanded through educating their citizens. Rather your goal is to be a professor or a roofer, education furthers your credentials and adds to the human capital of a country. You are right, that if everyone was educated the return of such benefits will be incrementally lower per educated person, but right now according to a study, only 27.7% of Americans have a four year degree. Plus, most high paying jobs require a four-year degree. As globalization takes hold, more jobs that are venerable to world competition (usually unskilled jobs) may disappear. The gap of income between those with a four-year degree and those without is growing, and will continue to grow. So it is important that a country invests and expands its human capital and it is important for individuals to invest in themselves and get an education to prevent potential pitfalls in the future.

Trades are a very good and lucrative alternative to college for many people. The average licensed electrician or plumber can easily earn as much as the average college grad.
