He guys
Im.new to this but I have questions. This will be my last high school year. I am really stressed out to pick a College and actually getting in I have a list of where I want to go I believe that I am aiming too high but I am willing to take a risk those Colleges are all out of state.
Is it really as expensive as I’ve been told
Does it matter to go to a prestigious school as in will you get more recognition.
And lastly I am really worried about my SAT and ACT scores. I took the new SAT in March and got a 1010. And fot the ACT i got a 20 in both of those cases I excelled in reading and writing but math was were I need most help. I am doing Khan academy but it just doesn’t seem to work I also have both certified books that are supposed to help you and for the reading it does a lot but for math it just confuses me. Should I get a tutor the charges 60 the hour or contact my math teacher that will help me raise my scores. (She was accepted into uf only because her math scores were higher than others).
I guess that is what I am really worried about is being accepted into those Colleges and my SAT and ACT scores.
Any advice??
Home State? Your in-state schools are the best financial options and can be an easier admit (usually).
Intended Major?
Unweighted GPA? HS course rigor: AP/IB/DE and Honors courses?
EC's? What interests you?
Many OOS schools can be expensive especially if they are public universities since the tax payers in each state subsidize their own state schools, so in-state applicants usually have reduced tuition rates.
There are many choices when it comes to college. Community college with a transfer to a 4 year university is also a good option if you are unable to get your test scores up to a certain level. There are test optional schools that you could look into.
First answer the questions above, to give posters an idea of what you are looking for, what is affordable and kind stats you have to work with besides your test scores.
Time to discuss options with your HS guidance counselor. S/he will have access to your personal information plus knowledge of where many students with your background are likely to be accepted and succeed. Cost/affordability is also a factor. Do not worry about the prestige of schools- you want to be in a school where you can comfortably learn, not struggle. Also come up with a list of schools that are less of a reach- your original list can be dream schools while this second list is the practical choices list.
Try the SuperMatch function on the left side of this page too. Like Gumbymom says, OOS requires lots of money so since cost is a concern, you should know that in advance and perhaps target in-state public universities.
Also, you can google the Common Data Sets (CDS) of possible colleges that interest you. In section C, they display the GPAs and test scores of admitted students. See where you compare and find out which fit your academic profile and those that are out of reach. Good luck
