Colleges cutting "secondary sports" due to pandemic

Caught part of this story on 60 Minutes last night. Some colleges axing "secondary sports" like gymnastics and tennis as pandemic continues - 60 Minutes - CBS News

In an attempt to save revenue sports (i.e. football and men’s basketball) colleges are cutting smaller sports. One person interviewed indicated that at U. Minn. they attempted to save men’s gymnastics by setting up camps for kids that would provide the funding but the school would not allow.

Schools also use Title 9 as an excuse and rather than expand women’s sports, cut men’s. This will have a major impact on Team USA in the Olympics in certain sports where college athletes are trained.

Not clear what the answer is, but another frustrating side effect of the virus.

Definitely many considerations when reducing athletic department costs. Here is the best running list of college sports team eliminations: https://hoopdirt.com/the-list-college-athletic-programs-cutting-sports/
