Colleges for uncertain student with sibs

And for,the record…I’m confused who I’m responding to…the OP or the person who high jacked the thread!!

Really very confusing when another poster totally high jacks a thread.

Split thread to hopefully allow each poster to get help

Where do you expect to go to in the NE for $15k (at a need based aid school)?

Like you said, even if a school required that from you the first year, the aid would go down with fewer in college and household.

Your parents are paying $24 k currently with 2 in college and you said home equity will go up.

You have to deal with what you got, find schools you can afford with the $15k.

Temple, maybe University of Pittsburgh if you increase scores some more, U Delaware.

Psychology requires grad study I think, where will that money come from?

My parents are paying 12K now total, not each.

Apparently Yale and Stanford do not consider home equity for home values around where ours are (<220K)

Reportedly, Stanford caps home equity used in the financial aid formula at 1.2 x income, and Yale does the same at 2.4 x income. So, for example, if your family income is $80k, Stanford will only use home equity up to a maximum of $96k, and Yale will use up to a maximum of $192k.

I second the suggestion for Temple University, my youngest will be attending in the fall on the full tuition presidential scholarship, a great deal, lots of perks with the honors program, etc.

If you want a smaller, more selective school, check out the University of Richmond, which my 2 older children attend, one with a full ride and one with a full tuition scholarship, they offer 45 ish full tuition/full ride scholarships each year to incoming freshmen, a lot for its size, approx. 3k undergrads.

Also UD is a nice choice, OOS are eligible for their distinguished scholars program, full ride/full tuition, they are competitive, but your stats are in the ball park, about 1 hour from Temple U, could coordinate visits.

My middle child was also offered full tuition at George Mason University outside of DC, public U in VA, good sciences, gets overshadowed by UVA and VTech, they are growing their honors program.

Richmond isn’t a five hour drive from Northern CT (not sure whether the town is on the Mass border near the pike or not) but might be worth the extra drive time.

Sorry @thirdkidislost , I did not see the 4-5 hour distance requirement in an earlier post. Temple and UD would meet your distance requirement. URIchmond(8 hours away) and George Mason(6 hours away) are further than that range, but they do have the advantage of having easy access via amtrak. My UR kids travel via amtrak often, and it is pretty reasonable if you can purchase tix a few weeks in advance. I know amtrak stops in Hartford, and New Haven in CT, and also in Springfield, Mass.
