Colleges Friendly to Transfer CCers

I'm looking to transfer in the Fall of '13 to a college that is pretty generous with financial aid. I'm going to get my associate's in fine arts and planning on joining Phi Theta Kappa, so perhaps this will help.

Some stats: my current college GPA is reset to 0.0 because I am transferring from a State U to CC because of financial reasons. However, previously, my GPA was about 3.85 or so (my school is on a 4.33 scale so I had to convert that to the 4.0 scale). I'm also a first-generation Asian immigrant.

In my previous school, I took a variety of arts and design classes, as well as writing.

I'm looking for a school that is arts-oriented but does not necessarily have to be an art school. Relative to my graduating class of 2015, I'm quite young so I'm still figuring out what I really want to do (but I've narrowed it down to a design field or writing). Because of this, Sarah Lawrence College really appeals to me (they have a $10k/year scholarship for PTK but I will look more into this since it appears to be a new program).

Another school is UCLA's DMA. But UCLA is really expensive for me.

Can anyone recommend any schools that have either a very good art and design department, or a very good writing/journalism/mass media department? And is very friendly to transfer students from community colleges in terms of financial aid?

Thank you.

Your cc gpa is 0.0 but when you apply those schools will look at both from your state u and cc. I just got into USC and I heard they have a really good communications program. This year some of the students from annenberg were able to intern at the olympics! Anyways depending on how much your parents make, USC can be either very generous or really unaffordable lol But good luck :)

Oh, that’s good to hear. I really thought all my hard work at my state u would be disregarded.

Those students must be ecstatic. I’ve never really considered USC before primarily because of cost but hey, applications are cheap compared to college itself.

Thanks for chiming in. Have a good time at USC!

State universities in the same state as the community college tend to be transfer-friendly. Perhaps other state universities besides the one you are transferring away from are suitable?
