Forgive me if this is not allowed, but has anyone explored options for college in Europe? Seems like there might be some good deals to be had with a lot less hoop-jumping. I have no idea if my son would be game, but I do want to make sure we have at least done some due diligence. Any thoughts, tips or observations welcome.
Continental Europe? There’s no such thing as switching majors (Scottish unis offer a little more flexibility). Where in Europe specifically?Germany? France? Elsewhere on the continent? UK?
There is an active UK subforum under “International Students”.
You might research University Colleges in the Netherlands. All classes in English. International focus. 3-year bachelor degree. Cost very approximately $12,000 per year for US students. They are patterned specifically after US LACs, and are often affiliated with larger Dutch universities, which, as noted, are more focused and students start on their major day 1. The University Colleges are small. There is a pretty big cultural difference. Also classes are yearlong and students take only one in a department each year. So a physics major would take Physics 1, Physics 2, and Physics 3 and graduate with a physics major. The classes cover a lot more than a US physics class. Here are links to a couple of them:

University Colleges are great options, as are the Scottish universities (more flexible than the typical programs), ESSEC BBA (for international business), Trinity Dublin BESS (PPE with business) or Arts (flexible choice, “TSM”), “arts” at most Irish universities is flexible, Sciences Po Reims for social sciences (with Columbia dual degree possibly).
