Colleges & Preference of SAT over ACT

Okay, I know colleges accept either, and most don't state a preference, but I've noticed that people with high SAT scores got into extremely selective schools, more so than people with high ACT scores (or at least at my school).

I have a feeling this will hurt me because I've resolved to focusing on the ACTs and forgetting about the SATs (since I'm scoring higher on the ACT).

What if I just submit the ACT w/ writing instead of the SAT 1, AND SAT subject tests. Even if the score is good, will it be looked down on or suspicious that I didn't send them my SAT scores/subject tests? Especially since I live in the South where everyone takes the SAT and the average student hasn't even heard of the ACTs?

Thanks everyone.

Colleges don't prefer either one. Use the one best for you.

I guess this is one of those old myth type deals (like if colleges care about kids taking tests 3+ times). I think its just a correlation that kids who take SATs are the ones who tend to apply and get into those top schools, since in general, they're mostly from the coasts where the SAT is popular. However I think its always a possibility that the adcom might have some bias toward SATs, just as theres that possibility that theres a bias against the 4-time test taker vs. the 2-time one. The policies they present, however, explicitly state that either is fine...I just wonder if they truly put their policies into action sometimes.
