I first travelled to Sewanee when I was in eighth grade for hiking and I immediately fell in love with the campus. It’s been my dream school since, but some parts of it are just not realistic now. I still love some parts of it. From my research I haven’t found a college I’m completely happy with (and still might not but c’est la vie) so I thought I’d ask anyone here if they’d know.
Here is what I’m looking for:
-Beautiful campus (why I love it)
-small/medium size
-Suburban area (Sewanee is more isolated, I’m afraid of not being able to find a job)
-Generous financial aid (my family is lower income)
-Good English/education programs
-30-70% admission rates
-Prefer east cost/New England (south/southeast is fine too)
What is your home state (where will you receive in-state tuition)?
I second the suggestion above for Rhodes College; although it is located in Memphis, TN, the part of Memphis it is located in doesn’t feel “big city”: it’s right across the road from Overton Park, and in a residential area that is quaint in parts. The unified architecture there reminds me of Sewanee.
Other southern/southeastern possibilities: Furman University; Centre College; Elon University.
Your grades and intended area(s) of study may also be relevant.
