to be exact michigan (Ann Arbor) had a 42.15% rate

For true Ivy caliber students (those with strong chances at elite colleges), UMichigan is a likely bet.

UNC-Chapel Hill!!! and Oberlin College.

also…Brandeis, Wake Forest University, Case Western, UC-San Diego.

soozie…there was no harm in me testing the validity of CC when I first visited the site. In fact, it actually did help me find that many on CC (unlike yourself) can be very helpful. While you may spend much of your time on College Confidential, it is clear that you are no connoisseur on the happenings of these schools’ admissions offices.

I’ll just respond but then the thread needs to get back on track.

First, posting false information and asking for help is misleading members. They volunteer to help you and would not take kindly to knowing the original post to a chances thread was false (though it was an unusual post with low stats with all top colleges on the list). Secondly, multiple registrations are not allowed on CC. Enough said.

As far as helpfulness, I’ll let my record speak for itself after 7 1/2 years on CC and thousands of posts. Check my posting history before telling me that I am not very helpful to members.

As far as understanding admissions, I am a college counselor whose job it is to advise students and their parents about the college selection and admissions process. I happen to know a thing or two. Opinions vary, of course.

Anyway, Sally is looking for input and feel free to give yours about colleges. Members view posts and the validity of them based on posting history to some extent. That’s just how it goes.

your oldest available post is on december 9th…
and you are a musical theater counselor so congratulations on being an expert on everything college. Do you work in these schools admissions offices? No.

btw you joined Aug 2004…if you think that adds up to 7 1/2 years

Being rude is not appreciated on CC.

There was another board before this that dated back to fall 2001. This board was created in 2004, and everyone switched over in August. Therefore many posters that have been on CC for many years are listed only as August 2004.

You’re also wrong about Michigan, by the way. According to my calculations, it had a 49.958% acceptance rate last year.

Why such a hostile thread? I say Loyola University in Maryland or Tufts University. Both I liked! :)

nervouscollege…please stop. The fact is, which you are unaware of being new to CC, that I joined CC in the summer of 2002, 7 1/2 years ago. The board was changed in 2004 and the post counts and join dates had to start anew at that time.

I am a college counselor who advises all kinds of applicant to all sorts of colleges, not just for musical theater. I have additional expertise in theater admissions. I don’t wish to keep this thread off topic but feel I must defend this false accusation.

I do not consider Tufts a likely bet for anyone. For a top student, I would consider it a match. Given the stats of admitted students, and the low admit rate, it cannot be counted on. I know a thing or two about Tufts (before I’m told I don’t, LOL), as I am an alum interviewer for Tufts University and have been doing that for a dozen years. My own kid who applied and is a top student (who did go to an Ivy League school, and is now in grad school at MIT), applied to Tufts but considered it a MATCH school, given the odds there even for top students.

ohh sorry…i didnt know :/. my older sister went to tufts and my mom told me i did better on the SATs than her so idk i just assume woopsssss. that’s interesting tho wow!

Birmingham Southern and Rhodes. We were very impressed with the students there.

I know someone who got into Yale but got rejected from Bucknell, so I would disagree with having that one on the list. I understand the “Ivy caliber students” going there part, but I think it’s acceptance rate is a bit too low to qualify here.

Here’s a thread folks might find relevant:

It seems we’re focusing on schools somewhere in papachicken’s #41-75 range.
These are very selective schools, some with admit rates <30% and a majority of admits in their high school top 10%. But, for someone with a realistic (if reachy) shot at an Ivy League school, most of these are fairly likely “match” schools (given a serious application effort.)

I’d add a couple of state universities higher than 75 (like Wisconsin).

Does anyone a good college for someone who wants to be an accountant and has never except once mad lower than a 96?

University of Arizona

I would say both Cal Poly schools, Ohio Wesleyan University, Northeastern, and a good majority of flagship state colleges (sans the really selective ones like Michigan, Virgina, UNC, etc) because of the wide availability of resources and strong honors programs.

Not to have this thread devolve into personalities, but i just want to say that I’ve found soozievt one of the most thoughtful and helpful people on this site. I have always been impressed with her posts. And, I think she did the best job of explaining what this thread is supposed to be about.

University of Scranton is a first-rate Jesuit university with reasonable admissions criteria.
