Hey guys! :)

I'm a junior with a fairly high PSAT score so I've been getting pounds of college mail daily, hahaha. I mostly ignore them but a couple of them have caught my eye...mainly Oberlin and University of Chicago.

I'm kind of obsessed with college, so I already have a pretty solid list of BFAs I want to apply to, but I'm still looking for some good "theatre [if not academic] safety" BA type programs.

In addition...my friend went to art school last semester and a liberal arts college called Bard at Simon's Rock told her she should apply - they seem really interesting (mainly they say you can come to their college "when you're ready," they told my friend to apply to go next year - when she would be a senior in high school).

I couldn't find much on any of these programs when I searched. Anyone heard much about them? :)

Thanks!

Try petersons.com or collegeboard.com as a starting point. They give you some info and details and link to the home page. Bard/simons Rock is funky but good liberal arts - it just has to be the right fit. Oberlin has wonderful music programs. Well respected, as is U Chicago. They all have web sites.

Oh, I know about the schools themselves, I'm just kind of looking for first-person input on the theatre programs - typically the school's websites don't do much for that.

UChicago has no theatre major whatsoever, unfortunately-- it interested me too. Oberlin is quite rural, so if seeing theatre in a large city is a necessary part of your theatre education, it might not be for you. A girl from my HS majors in theatre there, and it seems that she's gotten a lot of opportunity to do theatre, direct, etc-- I get the impression that their campus arts scene is thriving. If your search is anything like mine, your schools will fall into a few categories: BFA, BA-that's-academically-difficult-to-get-into, and the elusive non-audition-BA-I'd-still-love-to-go-to. Sounds like you're interested in an academically quirky environment with strong theatre, but keep asking yourself what else you want (size of school or theatre program, conservatory vs lib arts, location...) and it'll help. PM me if you have Q's!
