I'll be a sophomore in high school in the fall. I want to be a music teacher, so what majors/minors should I consider and at what colleges could I find those?

Welcome, samanthanz17! If you want to be a music teacher in a school, then the major you want is Music Education (different from an Education major). If you want to teach privately, then you could just get a degree in Music Performance for your instrument/voice.

For Music Education, usually the best route is a school in the state where you would like to work, so that you get all the necessary accreditation. Your state flagship likely has a reasonably priced and solid program, so that would be a good place to start your research.

Yes, Ideally, I would like to be a Music Teacher in the private school that I attended. I live in Michigan, so would you recommend the U of M or State or Western or what?

U of M has a great music school (probably the most well-regarded in the state), but MSU and Western are no slouches. IIRC Western has a good trumpet studio? What is your principal instrument?

My principal instrument is cello, but I did study piano for 8 years. I also take voice lessons.

Ask your current music teacher at your private school where he/she went for undergrad and if you know any other music teachers ask for their opinions. In my state, there are 2 good state schools and one private that 90% of the employed music teachers attended. They have good alumni networks and will post job openings for music teachers through these. Son was told to avoid at least one of the instate privates by multiple music teachers. Networking counts when trying to get a music teaching position.
