Colleges told that you have put them in the app before sending?

My son is a junior, and we are getting ready to start doing college visits. I told him I was going to set up his Common Ap profile so he could see the deadlines and admission requirements. In doing this, I went ahead and pulled in a few of the schools that he is interested in.

Today he got an email from a school thanking him for including them in the Common Ap, and reminding him that the deadline for applications is Feb. 1.

I was just really surprised about this. I didn’t think they would send any of his info until the application was finished and the “send” button was pressed. What’s with this?

All’s they can see is that they’ve been added.

Note that all common app accounts are deleted over the summer, so your son will have to make a new account when he actually applies next year.

@guineagirl96 Thanks for the info. I wasn’t aware they deleted all the accounts. I had gone back and seen where you could uncheck a box that would keep the colleges from being notified that you had added them.
