I have a very similar question, except I actually DID do the thing I’m talking about. It’s one of my most awesome EC’s, and it was when I traveled to China to help teach English at a youth camp. I have pictures/videos/etc from my time there but other than that they have no way of verifying I actually went. I was just wondering if they would give me a call or something asking about it during the admission process?
@project21 , if they did ask about it and you had no specific proof, my understanding is that they then ask for someone else who might be able to verify it. It might be the person who ran the program, a faculty member who was aware you went and had talked to your parents about it, the parent of another student who can verify you were there with her child, etc. They do try to be reasonable and give people the benefit of the doubt. It’s not like the Spanish Inquisition. But they’re also pretty good and figuring out when someone is trying to pull the wool over their eyes.
The trip wasn’t through a school, so that’s why I’m wondering how they’ll verify it. I’m thinking about bringing it up with my admissions counselor at the ideal school.
Doesn’t matter if it was through the school. Unless you got on a plane alone, didn’t go with any program, no one saw you there or were aware you were gone from home for however many weeks and why, there should be someone credible who can verify you went.
Oh, ok then. Yea I went with a group of about 30 people so we should be good.
