Can anyone tell me about colleges with sobriety/recovery support, specifically recovery housing and programs for students who have had problems in the past with alcohol or drug addiction but have learned to stay sober? The college environment can be very difficult for a young person who is trying to avoid alcohol and drugs, and very isolating when they try to avoid situations where alcohol and drugs are present. I have found the following website with what sounds like some terrific programs: http://collegiaterecovery.org/programs/ which is run by the Association for Recovery in Higher Education. Does anyone have any experiences with these programs? Do you know of other programs not on this list which offer support to students in recovery?
A friend’s son left Vanderbilt to go to a recovery program and has been well-supported since he returned. I knew a young man (some time ago) who returned to Penn with success. Not sure if he was supported by the school or other resources in Philadelphia.
