And I can’t commute from literally anywhere because my family situation will involve me essentially being homeless once I get out for college.
If you are not kidding, homeless kids are considered independent for financial aid purposes. If you do not want to post your family saga, you should talk to your guidance counselor or a teen social service agency about how to document your situation.
Techmom, read my sentence. I wrote tuition will be free. Tuition will be free, for households making under 125,000, which is the vast, vast majority of suny attenders, and those going to contract colleges, where it is ONLY a $6500/yr gift.
@Berrycupcake Sorry things aren’t great at home. If you can afford it, I like Brandeis for your major (they have a masters in computational linguistics so presumably strong for UG as well) and for the residential community. There are some very smart, friendly kids who go there. The location is suburban, but you can use public transportation to get into Boston for internships or entertainment.
I don’t know much about Rochester, but my d has a friend who really likes it there. BC has a reputation for wealthy entitled students that has been hard to shake. Definitely visit before you decide.
For SUNY, I know one person who attended Stonybrook OOS and really blossomed there. However, I’d worry that lots of students go home on the weekend. Binghamton is more residential, and has a solid reputation in all majors. My sister got her BSN there and it has served her well.
