Colleges with the Friendliest People

I know this seems like a generalization, but please try and respond anyway. I want to know which of the top ten to twenty usnews schools(national, not lacs) have the friendlist, least preppy, little partying, open and diverse, community oriented, intellectual, least cliquey, religiously diverse people. I don't want to end up somewhere where people are not accepting, or one group of people is overwhelming rude or in charge. Besides Brown(which is what I hear a lot of times). Thanks!

by little partying I mean the least partying

You have a lot of requirements on this. Er, I though that Cornell had incredibly friendly people around. People in Ithaca are incredibly nice!

My generalized stereotype is that Midwesterners are the most friendly, least pretentious. You'd have to find a school where there are more of these folks than others. Grinnell?

it probably goes without saying, but southern hospitality spills onto southern colleges, ie vanderbilt or emory. (but those are both huge party schools). look for a conservative southern school, ie a christian school. one of them would fit both your criteria.

well, i already applied, so I am looking to see which schools I applied to are like this, i didnt do a very good job selecting before i applied, so I want to know now the characteristics of each school, but I dont want to disclose where I applied, so let's just stick to the top twenty usnews national unis(i didnt apply to all of them, just some of them)

but no southern schools, i didnt apply to any, dont want to go to the south

People are going to party everywhere.

It's going to be hard to find friendly, outgoing people who stay inside all the time. I wouldn't look at partying as a lack of morals, or even those seemingly preppy as bad.

And on a quick note, partying's pretty prevalent at Brown. They're still wonderful people, maybe even more so because of it.

u of chicago? intellectual and not a lot of partying.

cool, i applied there, thanks, i have seriously considered that college. can you guys add in laid back to that list, anymore ideas for colleges

i was referencing brown because of the free thinking, non preppiness, or at least that is what I have heard, please let me know if I am just totally uninformed

Brandeis University in Boston- this is not top 20 but it is number 31
The people are so nice and it completes your list!

thanks, any other suggestions

i know, i am impatient, but bump

Northwestern- just stick to south campus.

The bigger a school you choose, the more likelihood that you will find people that you like.

yale! 10char

Stanford seems to fit, but they party quite a bit

Clark University in Worcester, MA! No doubt about it! When I visited, it seemed like everyone knew everyone (people were waving at others across the campus), very approachable. Even when I was passing by classrooms, people inside them were waving at us as we walked by! VERRY friendly, and diverse. and especially community-oriented! It would be a perfect fit for you! (that is, if you can stand the tons of snow that Worcester gets every winter ;) )

I know you didn't want south. . .but what about west?? Pomona is know to have VERY friendly people and a very laid pack SoCal environment
