Colleges with the nicest campus?

Duke University!!!

Montreat College, which is in a mountain cove outside Asheville, North Carolina. The location is gorgeous, the stone buildings are lovely, and the campus chapel has one of Ben Long’s frescoes.

Rice University.

Cowell College for sure. Possibly Stevenson.

This conversation is so subjective. The fact that someone would say that UCSC is just “nice” shows that everyone is inspired by a different aesthetic. If Neo-Gothic architecture and grassy quads are your thing, then you are never going to groove on a school like UC Santa Cruz.

For what it’s worth, I live in Boulder. CU Boulder has a lovely campus: sandstone buildings, red tile roofs… all set against the backdrop of the Flatirons. Clearly, I’m inspired by the natural beauty of the surrounding area as much or more than I am by the campus itself.

Your millage may differ.

Colgate is beautiful. You need to see it close-up to appreciate. When you reach the crest of that hill and look down on the aquafresh lake, it just gleems. Tom, of Maine, the pepsodent of the student body, says it’s the perfect choice for which ultrabright students should aim.

It would appear that a large majority of people are interested in “that look”. Personally, I don’t find many of the schools shown so far very aesthetically appealing (most seem rather bleak to me), but can certainly understand the allure of them to some people.

I’ve visited many colleges across the country, and my favorites have been Duke and Harvard. Harvard’s campus gets a lot of hate for some reason so I went there not expecting much but was absolutely blown away. The Charles River is breathtaking and the whole campus felt so awesomely historical. And of course Harvard Square was great.

I will disagree a bit with you here on personal aesthetics. To be fair, PLU is beautiful, but the neighborhood leaves a bit to be desired.

UW-Seattle is also quite lovely, but the u-district gets sketchy at night time.

I will agree with warbler that Berry College is downright [gorgeous.

Cornell and Ithaca in general are stunning as well.

I find Lewis & Clark](http://assets4.bigthink.com/system/idea_thumbnails/44734/original/ss1.jpg?1339361573) kind of cute. :)

I also have a soft spot for Middlebury’s campus. I haven’t seen UVa’s grounds yet…

Edit: COLGATE!! :)

I realize that I’m extremely biased in my opinion, but I absolutely love Notre Dame’s campus. There are days when I walk around campus and just stare. ND’s campus in the spring when the sun is shining off the dome and all the tulips are in bloom is like something off of a postcard. A lot of the older structures such as the dome, the grotto, and the basilica are often mentioned as some of the most beautiful structures on campus. I agree that they are very beautiful, but I also think that some of the newer building such as Jordan, Stinson-Remick, and the new Mendoza building are very attractive.

If it’s your cup of tea–

Paulsmiths.edu

UW-Seattle is often rated highly for aesthetics. Cherry blossom season is gorgeous.
I also disagree with PLU. I stayed there for a week and it is not especially pretty; it’s actually really run down

People have mentioned UNC Chapel Hill and VTech. I’ve visited both, and I don’t think either is the nicest. They’re both pretty nice, but kind of boring. I liked UVa, and I’m going to Northwestern which I think has a beautiful campus. Furman University is also gorgeous

Cambridge, Princeton, UCSB, Ole Miss, Dartmouth, Trinity University, Pepperdine, UW Madison, Georgia (The surrounding town makes a big difference for Ole Miss, UW and Georgia).

Not a fan of Stanford or Harvard, A&M is not in the top 100, University of British Columbia is in a great setting but has some really ugly buildings, UT Austin is impressive but not necessarily pretty or nice, Alabama is also impressive but too homogenous for me, LSU surprised me (nicer than what I expected), I cannot make up my mind about Rice

Vanderbilt is beautiful. Right near downtown Nashville and the whole campus is abundant with trees. Truly remarkable.

Bucknell. Really.

Bucknell and University of Richmond are both absolutely gorgeous!!!

Of the SUNY schools…GENESEO is the best.

I think peperdine has the most beautiful campus.

As the OP didn’t limit their question to U.S. universities, I’m voting for Oxford University.

Most Beautiful…what criteria? Natural setting? Architecture? A combination of both? If the latter, my selections of ones I’ve actually seen would be UVA, Vanderbilt, Princeton, Rice, and Pepperdine. Here are a few articles on the subject:
