It's all becoming a little bit clearer. We are less than two weeks away from the NCAA tournament selection.

Last week my bracket breakdown was written as if the season ended that day. This week I'm taking a bit of a different approach and projecting the future of the field. Why the change? Mainly, Syracuse. The committee better hope Syracuse wins out (beating Colgate and UMass) because if the Orange don't, it's going to be a huge task to pick that last at-large team. I couldn't do it. For the last two slots I kept coming back to choosing either Drexel, which has a 10-4 record and two top-20 RPI wins (but an awful SOS), Army, which hs a decent SOS, a decent win and a so-so RPI, UMBC, which has some quality wins, a solid RPI but a so-so SOS and Penn, which had no quality (top 20 RPI) wins but the highest SOS of the remaining teams....

Tim Paul Named Patriot League Lacrosse Rookie of the Week

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - After pitching his first-collegiate hat trick in the Mids' 10-9 loss to No. 7 Johns Hopkins over the weekend, Navy attackman Tim Paul (Parkton, Md.) was named the Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Paul is the second Navy player to garner rookie-of-the-week kudos this spring (Basil Daratsos on March 26) and is the seventh different Midshipman to earn player-of-the-week recognition.

After Navy lost starting attackman Bruce Nechanicky (Montgomery Village, Md.) to a devastating injury three weeks ago, Navy head coach Richie Meade turned to Paul, who had played in every game up to that point as a midfielder. Paul has not only stepped into the starting role at attack, he has found success over the last three games, producing five goals and two assists.

Twice in last Saturday's game against Hopkins a Paul goal led to a Navy lead. Paul punched in his first goal with 18 seconds remaining in the opening half to give the Mids a 5-4 lead at the half. It marked the 12th time this season Navy has held the lead at intermission. Paul struck again at 8:11 in the third quarter, giving the Mids a 6-5 lead. His goal with 24 seconds remaining in the game narrowed the Blue Jays lead to one and gave Navy a last chance to knot the score.

Paul came into the game having scored five goals this year. He also had been held scoreless in road games.

On the year, Paul has produced 12 points on eight goals and four assists. With his three-point performance against the Blue Jays, he became the ninth different Navy player to reach double figures in the points column this spring. Only Denver has more players (11) on its roster with 10-plus points.

Paul and the Midshipmen will be back in action on Friday when they play host to archrival Army in the first of two Patriot League Tournament semifinal contests. Top-seeded Navy will face-off against the Black Knights, the fourth seed, at 4:00 pm at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The second semifinal featuring No. 2 Colgate vs. No. 3 Bucknell is set to begin at approximately 7:00 pm. The Patriot League Championship Game will be played on Sunday beginning at 12:00 pm and will be televised by CSTV.

Eleven Midshipmen Garner All-Patriot League Lacrosse Honors

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Eleven members of the 10th-ranked Navy men’s lacrosse team were named to the 2007 All-Patriot League Team announced Wednesday, including seniors Billy Looney (Silver Spring, Md.) and Ian Dingman (Deferiet, N.Y.) who became just the second and third Midshipmen to earn First-Team All-Patriot League recognition three times during their illustrious careers. Navy accounted for 11 of the 29 spots among the first and second teams, including seven first-team selections for the second-consecutive year.

First Team Selections
Ian Dingman - Sr., A, Deferiet, N.Y. (Carthage); 2004, ‘06, ‘07 First-Team All-Patriot League
The three-time First-Team All-Patriot League selection has been Navy’s top goal producer (2003, ‘06, ‘07), as well as the top point producer (2003, ‘04, ‘07) in three of his four years. He has amassed 178 points in four seasons, the most by a Navy player since four-time All-American Mike Herger recorded 197 points between 1987-90. Ranked No. 5 on the Navy’s career scoring list, No. 2 on the goals list (120) and No. 11 on the assists list (58), he is only the third player in school history to score 100 goals and deal out 50 assists. This season, Dingman has paced the Midshipmen with 32 points (tied with Mirabito) and 28 goals and is nationally ranked in both categories. He has turned in a goal or an assist in 11 of the 12 games this spring and has recorded a team-best seven hat tricks. He heads into Friday’s Patriot League Tournament semifinal clash against Army riding an eight-game goal-scoring streak.

NIck Mirabito - Jr., A, Binghamton, N.Y. (Chenango Forks); 2007 First-Team All-Patriot League
Mirabito is a first-time All-Patriot League recipient, however, his contributions over the last three years have been of mammoth proportions. The three-year starter has produced a goal or an assist in 42 of the 43 games in which he has played, including 40 straight before his streak was stopped by Maryland three weeks ago. He is coming off a three-assist performance against Johns Hopkins a week ago where he became just the 26th player in program history to reach the 100-point plateau. One of the most balanced players on the roster, Mirabito has scored 17 goals to accompany his team-high 15 assists this spring.

Billy Looney - Sr., M, Silver Spring, Md. (DeMatha Catholic); 2005, ‘06, ‘07 First-Team All-Patriot League, 2004 Patriot League Rookie of the Year
Looney has been nothing short of sensational during his stay in Annapolis. In addition to garnering All-Patriot League kudos in three-consecutive years, as well as the league’ rookie of the year award in ‘04, he has been named an All-American twice and has twice been named to the Tewaaraton Award Foundation’s Watch List. For the second-straight year, Looney has made the initial cut which currently highlights what the Foundation deems the 17 top players in Div. I lacrosse. Looney, who has turned in a goal or an assist in 48 of the 61 games he has played in, is Navy’s top scorer out of the midfield with 27 points on 15 goals and 12 assists. He is just four points away from joining Navy’s 100-point club that currently recognizes 26 men. His 27 points this spring are the most he has produced in any one season at the Academy, as are his 12 assists. In fact, he recorded 12 assists in his first two seasons combined. One of Navy’s best players on extra-man, Looney!
has scored four goals and added five assists on the Mids’ man-up squad this spring.

Tommy Wallin - Sr., M, Mountain Lakes, N.J. (Mountain Lakes); 2007 First-Team All-Patriot League
After missing several games last spring with an ankle injury, Wallin returned to Navy’s lineup and has enjoyed his most successful season in a blue and gold uniform. Wallin is Navy’s fifth-leading scorer with 16 points on 10 goals and six assists. His 10 goals this spring marks the first time in his career that he has posted double-figure goals in a season. Additionally, coming into the season he owned a combined six assists in his first three seasons. Wallin, who has the distinction of scoring the game-winning goal in each of the last two Star Games against Army, heads into the Patriot League Tournament owning a six-game scoring streak, including scoring a goal in five-consecutive games.

William Wallace - Sr., M/FO, Bloomfield Village, Mich. (Cranbrook); 2006, ‘07 First-Team All-Patriot League
A two-time First-Team All-Patriot League selection, Wallace has not only shown damage at the face-off “x,” but also as a member of the Mids’ second midfield line. Wallace has turned in 13 points on 10 goals and three assists. After 14 games during his career scoring one goal, he scored four in the Mids’ 15-10 victory over Colgate earlier this season. A solid extra-man player, he has punched in three goals for the Mids. Winning 83 of his 126 draws in ‘07, Wallace is ranked No. 2 in the country with a .659 face-off winning percentage. In conference action, he owns a .781 success rate. He is second on Navy’s all-time face-offs won list with 292, while his 61 wins this season stands 11th on the leader board. Tying into his face-off success, Wallace is among the nation’s top 20 in ground balls, picking up 5.08 per game. He is just six grounders shy of tying John Duthie’s school record for ground balls in a career with 214.

Victor Barger - Sr., LSM, Clifton Park, N.Y. (Shenendehowa); 2006 Second-Team All-Patriot League, ‘07 First-Team All-Patriot League
Jordan DiNola - Jr., D, Ballston Lake, N.Y. (The Albany Academy); 2006, ‘07 First-Team All-Patriot League

Second Team Selections
Basil Daratsos - Fr., M, Niskayuna, N.Y. (Niskayuna); 2007 First-Team All-Patriot League
Navy’s first rookie to garner All-Patriot League recognition, Daratsos has played a pivotal role on Navy’s starting midfield line. With 16 points on 14 goals and a pair of assists, he is the Mids’ fourth-leading scorer and has recorded a goal in nine of Navy’s 12 contests this spring. He has an affinity for Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium where he has scored 11 of his 14 goals.

Brendan Teague - Jr., D, Annapolis, Md. (St. Mary’s); 2006, ‘07 Second-Team All-Patriot League
Andrew Dow - Sr., D, Hauppauge, N.Y. (Hauppauge); 2006, ‘07 Second-Team All-Patriot League
Geoff Leone - So., DM, Massapequa, N.Y. (Massapequa); 2007 Second-Team All-Patriot League

To talk about Navy’s defense, you must talk about it as a unit. That’s exactly the respect the Mids received as all three close defensemen garnered all-league recognition, along with its top long stick defensive midfielder and short stick defensive midfielder. Jordan DiNola, Brendan Teague, Andrew Dow, Victor Barker and Geoff Leone have been the heart and sole of Navy’s defense for the last several years. The Mids are ranked fifth in the country with a stingy 6.42 scoring defense, giving up 77 goals in 12 games. Navy has given up double-figure goals four times in the last two years (27 games). This spring, the man-down defense has surrendered just 10 goals, stopping the opposition 76.2 percent of the time (32-42). Over the last five games, Navy has given up just two goals on 16 opportunities.

The five major award winners — Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year — will be announced Thursday.

Navy, meanwhile, continues to prepare for its first-round Patriot League Tournament match-up against fourth-seeded Army on Friday. The Midshipmen, who have won three-consecutive Patriot League Tournament titles, will battle the Black Knights in the first semifinal beginning at 4:00 pm, followed by the Colgate-Bucknell contest at approximately 7:00 pm.

The Patriot League Championship Game is set for Sunday, April 29 at 12:00 pm and will be televised live on CSTV. Boston Cannons General Manager Jason Chandler (play by play) and former Syracuse All-American Paul Carcaterra (analyst) will call the action. The tournament winner will receive an automatic bid to play in the NCAA Championship.

The Patriot League tournament also begins this weekend in Annapolis, Md. Navy and Army clash again on Friday. The Cadets have dropped five in a row and the Navy seniors are 6-0 against their rivals.

The Mids have some injury issues -- they finished the Johns Hopkins game last Saturday without their best defender, Jordan DiNola, who was injured. The junior is the leader of the team's defensive corps, its top cover guy and the most confident ball handler. Jeff Leone, the Academy's best short-stick midfielder and clearer, was dinged up as well. The absence of those players contributed to errors in the clearing game.

Colgate (9-4) and Bucknell (11-3) will square off for the second consecutive weekend in the other semifinal. Colgate has won five straight overall, including Saturday's 9-7 win over the Bison.

If Navy wins the Patriot League, the conference will not get another team into this year's NCAA Tournament.

The ACC tournament is all about redundancy. Virginia-Maryland and North Carolina-Duke are the semifinal matchups. Duke is the hottest team in the conference -- the Blue Devils have won six games in a row. All four ACC schools should get NCAA invites, and the conference may have two of the top four seeds. These rematches just add confusion to their playoff r

Richie Meade Named Patriot League Men’s Lacrosse Coach of the Year

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - After leading the 10th-ranked Navy men's lacrosse team to a share of its fourth-straight Patriot League regular-season title, 13th-year head coach Richie Meade has been named the Patriot League Coach of the Year, it was announced by the league office Thursday. Meade has been honored by his peers twice since joining the league, including being named the coach of the year in Navy's inaugural season in 2004.

Meade, who was named the US Lacrosse Coach of the Week on March 5, guided the Midshipmen to a 6-0 conference record this spring, marking the second time in the last four years that Navy has pitched an unblemished record in Patriot League play. In fact, Meade's Mids have amassed a 29-2 Patriot League record, dropping one game in 2005 and '06.

Ranked as high as No. 4 in the country this spring, Navy ran its record to 8-0, including a 5-0 league mark, before dropping back-to-back one-goal decisions to nationally-ranked programs Georgetown and Maryland. Among the five conference wins were victories over Bucknell and Colgate, the lone teams to beat the Mids in Patriot League play in the last four seasons. Last spring Colgate shocked fourth-ranked Navy in New York by scoring four unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to beat the Mids, 6-3. This spring midfielders Basil Daratsos (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and William Wallace (Bloomfield Village, Mich.) scored a combined eight goals to lead the Midshipmen to a 15-10 victory over the Raiders.

Two years ago, Bucknell scored four unanswered goals in the second half, including the game-winner in overtime to defeat the second-ranked Mids in Lewisburg, Pa. Navy returned to Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium just four days after its emotional win over Colgate and this time the Midshipmen grabbed the lead and held on for a 6-3 victory on the road.

Navy went on to clinch its second undefeated league season by handing service academy rival Army a 12-9 loss at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, and the Mids extended their winning streak to 12 in a row against the Black Knights.

The top-seeded Mids are ranked No. 1 in the Patriot League in scoring offense (10.83), ground balls per game (36.00) and shots per game (37.5), while they are ranked No. 2 in an additional five categories including extra-man offense and man-down defense.

The top-seeded Midshipmen will face arch rival Army (6-6, 3-3 Patriot League), the fourth seed, in the first of two Patriot League Tournament semifinal contests on Friday beginning at 4:00 pm, followed by the Colgate-Bucknell match-up slated for 7:00 pm.

The Patriot League Championship Game is set for Sunday at 12:00 pm and will be televised live on CSTV. Boston Cannons General Manager Jason Chandler (play by play) and former Syracuse All-American Paul Carcaterra (analyst) will call the action.
Army Vs. Navy - The Series
• Army and Navy have battled it out on the lacrosse field for 75-consecutive years ... it's the longest continuous lacrosse series between Navy and another team.
• After its 12-9 win over the Black Knights two weeks ago, Navy now leads the series, 55-26-3, winning 12-straight games, including 10 Star Games.
• The last time Army defeated Navy was April 25, 1997, when the Black Knights edged the Mids, 14-12, in Annapolis.
• Navy owns a 2-0 record against Army in the Patriot League Tournament ... in those two games, the Mids have outscored the Black Knights, 23-13.
• Navy has scored eight or more goals in 17-straight games against Army ... in 14 of those contests, the Mids have reached double digits ... during the Mids' current 12-game run, Navy has been held to single digits just twice.
• The MIdshipmen own a 27-13-1 over Army advantage in games played in Annapolis, including wins in each of the last six meetings.
• Three players on Navy's roster have scored eight or more goals against Army during their careers - Ian Dingman (11), Billy Looney (11), Nick Mirabito (11).
• Army and Navy have played each other twice in each of the last three years (including this season) ... there have been only five times in the 83-game history (dating back to 1924) that the two programs have battled twice in one season (1978 and 1981 in the NCAA Tournament, 2005, 2006 and 2007 in the Patriot League Tournament.
• Prior to become Navy's head coach in 1995, Richie Meade spent four seasons as an assistant coach under the legendary Jack Emmer at Army from 1991-94 ... during those four seasons, Army and Navy split with two wins apiece ... as Navy's head coach, Meade owns a 13-2 record against the Black Knights.
• Navy All-American Ian Dingman's oldest brother, Lee, is a Class of 2000 graduate of Army and was a three-year lacrosse letterwinner for the Black Knights.

Recapping This Year's Star Game
• Seniors Tommy Wallin, Ian Dingman and Billy Looney scored goals in the final nine minutes to lead No. 8 Navy to a 12-9 victory over arch rival Army in front of 11,370 fans at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium two weeks ago.
• Seven different Midshipmen scored goals, while another two chipped in assists as Navy concluded the Patriot League portion of its schedule undefeated at 6-0.
• It looked as thought it would be a blowout early on as the Mids opened up a 3-0 lead seven minutes into the game.
• Army briefly stopped Navy's momentum at the 6:20 mark when sophomore attackman Brooks Korvin fired off a shot from seven yards out.
• Navy took a 6-2 lead when Wallin found midfielder William Wallace cutting to the middle with just 32 seconds remaining in the half.
• On the ensuing face-off, the Mids failed to get a specialist out in a reasonable amount of time and Army was awarded possession ... the Black Knights set up quickly, as rookie Brandon Butler found Jason Peyer who tucked in his first-collegiate goal against Navy with just five ticks left.
• Navy scored back-to-back goals just 29 seconds apart in the first three minutes of the second half to open up a five-goal lead, its largest of the game.
• Army, though, went on a five-goal run to knot the score at the end of the third quarter.
• Navy regained the lead, when Mikelis Visgauss won the draw to start the fourth quarter and fed senior Victor Barger who raced to the left side of the field untouched and found a gap.
• Army tied the game at 9-9 (10:43) when Bokmeyer threaded a pass from the left side of the field that went right through a pack of players and LoRusso dunked it in as he sat on the crease.
• Wallin gave the Mids the lead for good with 8:31 to go as he fought off a triple-team that sent him to the ground as he release a shot from five yards out.

Just the Facts
• Navy came into the Patriot League Tournament a year ago with the exact same record as this year, 9-3 ... the Mids went on to win two games in the league tournament to claim the crown for the third-straight season before dropping its NCAA match-up to Georgetown.
• A Navy player has produced a hat trick in 10 of the 11 contests this season - Ian Dingman 7x, Nick Mirabito 3x, Billy Looney 2x, Basil Daratsos 1x, Bruce Nechanicky 1x, William Wallace 1x ... the streak of nine in a row was broken in the Mids' overtime loss to Maryland (4/6) ... rookie Basil Daratsos and Tim Paul paced the Mids with two goals each against the Terps.
• Navy's defense is ranked fifth in the country, giving up 6.42 goals per game ... the Mids have given up double-figure goals four times (Army in '06, Colgate and Georgetown in '07) in its last 27 games and six times in the last 42.
• The Mids have held six of their 12 opponents to five or fewer goals this season, including a three-goal output by nationally-ranked Bucknell ... dating back to 2003, Navy has won 27-straight games when holding its foes to five or fewer goals.
• Navy has held the lead at halftime in every game this season ... the Mids have lost 12 in a row when trailing at the break and 59 straight when trailing after three quarters of play.
• Navy has scored a goal in 998-consecutive games dating back to 1910.
• Navy's streak of nine-straight wins when scoring an extra-man goal came to an end last week against Johns Hopkins ... the Mids were 1 for 2 on EMOs, but dropped the 10-9 decision.
• Over the last five games, Navy's opponents have scored just two goals on 16 extra-man opportunities (.125).
• Navy is one of just four teams in the country to have both its extra-man and man-down units ranked among the top 15 ... the Mids are 11th on extra-man and 13th on man-down ... joining Navy is Cornell (7th & 14th), Brown (13th & 15th) and Siena (15th & 10th).

Patriot League Success
• Since joining the Patriot League in 2004, Navy is 29-2 (.935) against opponents from the league, including a 6-0 mark in the Patriot League Tournament ... the Mids lost to Bucknell in 2005 and Colgate in 2006.
• The Mids have produced undefeated marks in conference action in two of the last four years ... 7-0 in '04 and 6-0 in '07.
• Navy has won at least a share of the Patriot League regular-season title in each of its four years as a member of the league ... additionally, the Mids have claimed the league's tournament crown three years, earning the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament in 2004, '05 and '06.
• 24 different Midshipmen have garnered All-Patriot League recognition since 2004, while 13 of the 24 have earned honors multiple times.
• A Navy player has earned three of the four major awards, including senior Billy Looney, who was named the 2004 Patriot League Rookie of the Year.
• Richie Meade was named the 2004 Patriot League Coach of the Year after leading the Mids to a flawless 7-0 mark in league competition ... on Thursday, he received recognition a second time from his peers after guiding the Mids to a 6-0 record this spring.

Home Cookin'
• Navy owns a 23-6 record (.793) in games played at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium since the start of the 2004 campaign, outscoring its foes, 325-195 (11.2 to 6.7 gpg).
• Navy has not lost a Patriot League game at home in its four years.
• The Mids have allowed just four teams (Colgate in '07; Georgetown in '05; Ohio State and Johns Hopkins in '04) to reach double digits in games played on their home field over the last four seasons ... Navy has held 11 of its 29 opponents to five or fewer goals since 2004.
• Navy owns a 5-1 record at home this season, dropping an 8-7 double overtime decision to Maryland two weeks ago.
• Navy owns a 63-28 (.692) record at home under the direction of head coach Richie Meade ... the Mids have reached four wins at home every season Meade has been the head coach ... Navy has recorded five or more wins at home in six of Meade's 13 seasons, including seven wins in 2004 & '05.

A Dominant Stretch
• Navy is in the midst of one of its most dominant four-year runs in school history ... since the start of the 2004 season, Navy owns a 47-14 record (.770).
• During that same stretch, Navy is 21-12 (.636) against ranked opponents and 26-2 mark (.929) against unranked foes.
• Since the start of the 2004 season, Navy owns a 7-5 (.583) record against teams ranked higher than the Mids in the USILA Coaches Poll ... against lower ranked or unranked teams, Navy is 40-9 (.816).
• The Mids have posted a 23-6 record at home, outscoring their foes, 325-195 (11.2 to 6.7 gpg) during that span ... just four teams have reached double digits on Navy's home field during that stretch.
• The Mids may be even better on the road since the 2004 campaign, owning a 16-6 record and defeating 11 ranked teams in the process ... ironically, two of Navy's five road losses have come to unranked Patriot League opponents.
• In the last three-plus seasons, the Midshipmen have produced the top-three win totals in school history ... in 2004, Navy won 15 games en route to its NCAA Championship game appearance and in 2005, the Mids produced 12 wins in earning their second-consecutive NCAA Tournament berth ... last spring, Navy claimed wins in 11 contests.
• The Class of 2007 became the winningest class in school history on March 21 when it claimed its 45th win in 56 contests ... this year's class has won 47 of its 61 contests (.770) ... last year's graduating class turned in a 44-18 record (.710).

Balanced Scoring
• 17 players have scored goals for the Midshipmen this spring, while another six have posted assists, bringing the total to 23 different players having a role in Navy's scoring.
• Of the 17 players who have scored for Navy, 13 of them have found the back of the goal at least twice this spring.
• After a three-goal performance by rookie Tim Paul last Saturday at Hopkins, nine Navy players have reached double-digit points this spring ... only Denver (11) has more players with double-digit point production ... Albany, Cornell, Manhattan and North Carolina join Navy with nine players who have recorded 10-plus points this year.
• Last year, only seven Navy players reached double figures in the points column ... while Navy currently has nine players with double digits, junior attack Matt Guido is on the cusp with seven points.
• Seven different players have accounted for the Mids' nine game-winners ... seniors Ian Dingman and Tommy Wallin have each produced a pair of game-winning goals.

Compare and Contrast
• When comparing the stats from Navy's nine wins vs. the three losses, perhaps the most devastating difference is extra-man production ... Navy has scored 15 of their 16 extra-man goals in games in which they have won.
• The Mids are 1 for 9 (.111) on extra-man opportunities in the three games they have lost.
• There is also a noticeable difference in Navy's clearing game ... Navy owns an 81 percent success rate in games it has won, but has cleared just 63 percent in losses.
• Navy's defense has limited its foes to 5.4 goals per game in wins and is giving up an additional four goals in losses.

Third Quarter Woes
• In recent weeks, Navy has struggled to keep its opponents under control in the third quarter.
• The Mids have given up 30 goals in the third quarter this spring (2.50 per gm).
• Navy's last four opponents - Georgetown, Maryland, Army and Johns Hopkins - have accounted for 17 of the 30 goals, 56.7 percent ... in the last four games, Navy has given up nearly double (4.25) the # of goals it has allowed in the third quarter this season.
• Georgetown scored 5 of its 10 goals to open the second half, while Maryland scored 4 of its 7, Army picked up 5 of its 9 and the Blue Jays scored three of its 10 markers in the third stanza.

National Noise
• Navy is ranked among the top 10 in four statistical categories and the top 5 in two.
• The Mids are fifth in the country with their smothering defense, giving up 6.42 goals per game.
• Navy is ranked fifth with its +4.42 margin of victory, while Cornell is atop the list with a +8.00 margin.
• Navy also owns the nation's ninth-best face-off win percentage (.594) and seventh-best win percentage (.750).
• Senior goalkeeper Colin Finnegan is ranked No. 3 in goals-against average (6.21) and ninth in save percentage (.606).
• Senior midfielder William Wallace is No. 2 in the country in face-off win percentage, claiming wins in 65.9 percent of his draws.

Navy is the clear-cut favorite to capture the fourth Patriot League Tournament, and rightfully so.

Navy owns a 29-2 record against Patriot League opponents since becoming a member in 2004 and is the three-time conference champion. The Midshipmen went undefeated in the league and beat each of the other three playoff participants by at least three goals this season....

Do not be deceived by the record the Blue Jays (5-4) bring into the game. Their losses were to No. 2 Albany, No. 3 Duke, No. 4 Virginia and No. 10 North Carolina by a combined eight goals. The Albany game was a bit of a surprise. The other three are not.

Virginia was leading Hopkins 11-3 in the fourth quarter last year (the game finished 12-6 as I recall). Going from that debacle to beating a team in the span of one year is a lot of improving to make. Rarely does a team get that back all in one year....

Navy Handles Army, Advances to Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Title Game

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The 10th-ranked Navy lacrosse team dominated Army from the opening face-off, as the Midshipmen defeated fourth-seeded Army, 12-1, in the first of two Patriot League Tournament semifinal games Friday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis. The 11-goal victory ties the series record for largest margin of victory which it has accomplished five times in the 85-game history. Meanwhile, the one-goal output by Army marks the fewest goals it has scored against Navy since 1989 when the Mids defeated the Black Knights, 12-1.

"I was impressed with the way we played today," said Navy head coach Richie Meade who has led the Midshipmen to 13-consecutive wins over Army. "This has been a really tough week at both service academies. Army fought hard, but I felt like fatigue got to them today."

Eight different players put goals on the scoreboard for the Midshipmen, including four who each tucked in a pair. Seniors Tommy Wallin (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) and Billy Looney (Silver Spring, Md.), along with Tim Paul (Parkton, Md.) and Nick Mirabito (Binghamton, N.Y.) each scored two goals and added an assist, while senior Ian Dingman (Deferiet, N.Y.) punched in a goal and dealt out a pair of assists.

Navy scored just 45 seconds into the contest as Wallin fed Paul as he was cutting to the middle of the field, just two yards outside of the crease. Wallin poked in his first goal of the game at the 8:41 mark, triggering five goals over the next five minutes by five different Midshipmen. One of the highlights of the opening quarter was when Dingman fed First-Team All-Patriot League long stick defensive midfielder Victor Barger (Clifton Park, N.Y.) for his fourth goal this spring off four shots. After a lengthy scrum ensued off a face-off, Navy picked up the loose ball with Dingman finding Barger on the doorstep.

Mirabito scored the last goal of the first quarter and the first marker in the second quarter to push Navy's lead to 7-0 with just over seven minutes to play in the opening half. Paul fed Mirabito at the top of the crease when Mirabito was met by an Army defender who sent him airborne. Mirabito, though, stuck the goal.

Army finally got on the scoreboard with 6:19 to go in the second quarter when starting middie Kevin LoRusso rippled the back of the net off a shot from nearly 10 yards out.

Navy then scored back-to-back goals by Looney and Paul to head into the locker room with a comfortable 9-1 advantage.

The Mids went on to score three in the final quarter, including the first-collegiate goal by sophomore Sean Standen (South Hadley, Mass.).

Navy's defense, led by All-Patriot League players Jordan DiNola (Ballston Lake, N.Y.), Andrew Dow (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and Brendan Teague (Annapolis, Md.) held Army scoreless for the first 23 and final 21 minutes of the contest.

The Mids more than doubled-up Army's shot production as they scored 12 goals on 33 shots against Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year Adam Fullerton, while the Black Knights put up just one goal on 14 shots. The one area Army clearly held the advantage in was the face-off game where the Black Knights won 11 of the 17 draws.

Navy will play the winner of the second semifinal, featuring second-seeded Colgate against the No. 3 seed Bucknell, on Sunday in the Patriot League Championship Game. Face-off is set for 12:00 pm at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and will be televised live by CSTV.

10 Navy def. #19 Colgate, 15-9, in Patriot League Championship

Navy Captures Fourth-Straight Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Title

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Patriot League Tournament MVP Nick Mirabito (Binghamton, N.Y.) scored four goals and added a pair of assists to lead the 10th-ranked Navy men's lacrosse team to a 15-9 victory over No. 19 Colgate in the championship game of the Patriot League Tournament played on Sunday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The Mids, who have now won four-consecutive Patriot League Tournament titles, receive the Patriot League's automatic bid to play in the 2007 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament set to begin May 12-13.

"I'm obviously excited to win, but I'm really excited for this group of seniors who have now won 49 games during their four years here," said Richie Meade, the 2007 Patriot League Coach of the Year.

"Its a big honor to go 4-0 in the Patriot League Tournament," said Navy team captain and starting defenseman Andrew Dow (Hauppauge, N.Y.). "We owe it to every player on the team who gave everything they had."

Mirabito garnered tournament MVP honors after producing six goals and three assists in Navy's two tournament wins, including a career-high four-goal performance in the championship contest. Navy got a phenomenal effort from third-year midfielder Rob Lenseth (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), who scored a career-high three goals, off the Mids' second midfield line. Lenseth came into the contest having scored just one-collegiate goal.

"Rob is a guy who has worked extremely hard over the last few years," added Meade. "He's probably been disappointed that he hasn't gotten the time he feels he may have deserved, but he didn't let that get in the way. Coming into the game, we felt like his maturity and experience would help that second midfield."

Senior Ian Dingman (Deferiet, N.Y.) and rookies Tim Paul (Parkton, Md.) and Basil Daratsos (Niskayuna, N.Y.) each pitched in a pair of goals, while Tommy Wallin (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) and Terence Higgins (Chappaqua, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring column for the Midshipmen.

Colgate took the early edge in the game as Matt Lalli and E.J. Atamian scored back-to-back goals to give the Raiders a 2-0 advantage.

Navy finally got on the scoreboard when Paul fed Higgins at the 5:06 mark, but Colgate's Ian Murphy answered with a goal just over a minute later to stretch the lead out to two once again.

Mirabito scored the first of his four goals with 2:51 to play in the opening quarter, but once again, the Raiders responded with Brendan Hurley punching in his 28th goal of the season 50 seconds after Mirabito's goal.

With just five seconds left, Wallin came up with a loose ball on the right side of the goal. He spotted Mirabito who sat on the door step and narrowed Colgate's lead to just one (4-3) heading into the second quarter.

Dingman knotted the game at four apiece less than two minutes into the quarter when he threaded a shot between the keeper's shoulder and the right post. Three minutes later, Navy took its first lead of the game when Daratsos fired off a shot from 10 yards out.

Colgate briefly interrupted Navy's run when at the 8:48 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year Brandon Corp found Joshua Back who fired in a goal off a tough angle from the right side.

Navy, though, scored the final three goals of the first half, including Lenseth's first goal at 3:43 that sparked the run, to take an 8-5 lead at the intermission.

Despite having a three-goal lead heading into the third quarter, Navy once again struggled to contain its opponent to open the second half. After surviving successive man-down possessions, Navy gave up back-to-back even strength goals at 12:39 (Lalli) and 10:31 (Kevin Colleluori) to led the Raiders back into the game at 8-7.

Lenseth helped Navy stretch its lead to two when he took a Paul pass and fired off a shot from 15 yards out with just over 1:30 left in the quarter. However, Colgate got the final say of the period as Lalli made a head-up play firing off a shot from 25 yards out to score the goal with just one second remaining. Lalli got an assist from Colleluori who mixed it up with Navy keeper Colin Finnegan (Arnold, Md.) who skated the crease and was shielded.

Navy took control of the game early in the fourth quarter when Dingman and Daratsos scored goals less than two minutes apart and Paul punched in his first of two goals with 7:50 remaining in the contest to give the Mids a 12-9 lead and put it out of reach for the Raiders.

Colgate scored one last time (7:09), but Navy produced the final three goals to earn the 15-9 victory.

Navy scored on nearly half of its shots, finding the goal on 15 of its 33 shots. Colgate, meanwhile, found the back of the net on nine of its 34 opportunities. The Mids' man-down defense was phenomenal, stopping the Raiders on all three of their extra-man opportunities. Colgate came into the game as the nation's top-ranked extra-man team scoring on 60 percent of its opportunities.

Finnegan made 10 stops in goal for the Midshipmen, including five in the opening quarter, while Colgate's Tim Harrington produced seven saves.

In addition to Mirabito, Finnegan, Dingman, Wallin and defenseman Jordan DiNola (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) were named to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team.

Navy will turn its focus to final exams this week and await the announcement of its first-round NCAA Tournament opponent. The pairings for the NCAA Tournament will be announced next Sunday evening on ESPNU.
