Colonades

My D who is a freshman will be living on the 3rd floor of Blding C (Kivette) in the Colonades. I've looked at the floor plans on line, but can anyone whose had previous experience there tell me the following: Whats on the floor? Carpet wood or tile? What is the furniture like--wood, white, etc. Just trying to plan a bit. Any comments welcome. Also anyone who has used the carpet service, what's it like?

My son is also going to be in Colonnades (yay!) and I read the floors are carpeted.

Here’s the quote from the Housing webiste:

Thanks I did see that but missed the “carpet” part. I’m just trying to get more details than appear on the floor plans. The closets in her room look tiny so I’m trying to figure out things like how many drawers are in the dresser, how wide the desk is so we can purchase a hutch on our own rather than going thru the Elon service, etc. Wonder what color the carpet is?? Such “girl” questions I know but will make everything easier on move in day. Thrilled she’s in Colonades!!

Yup - as mom to a boy - I definitely do not have to worry about those issues! My guess is the carpet is tan. I’m wondering if they really need to rent the micro-fridge - given the kitchen on each floor. And if they have the double room with the shared bathroom between it - are they responsible for cleaning it? I know hall baths are generally cleaned by school custodial staff, but what about this type of bathroom which is more “en suite”?

En suite bathrooms (shared between 2 rooms) were not cleaned by staff when my D lived in old Moffitt. The girls created a cleaning chart and took turns cleaning it weekly.

Your kids are lucky to be in Colonnades - they’re brand new and GORGEOUS!

Yes - it was his first choice and we are very excited. Except about the cleaning the bathroom part. Four boys…one bathroom…has the potential to be quite gross.

Yes, I’m afraid the bathroom cleaning could be an issue. I am curious about the carpet. Are we responsible to bring a vaccuum or is there one located on each floor? I’m thinking the carpet could get gross really quickly; especially with a sink in the room. Rockville, if you haven’t checked on line, the Floor plans and dimensions for all the bldgs at Elon are on line and you can actually look up your son’s exact room and see the dimensions–kinda cool. Closets look tiny to me.

Theoretically, there is a vacuum on each floor. Practically, $40 will buy a nice Dirt Devil stick vacuum cleaner at Target.

Ah, but how much wil it take to get them to use it!
