Hello. An international(asian) student speaking:)
I have heard many cases of either explicit or implicit racial discrimination among students in even prestigious universities. Of course the perpetraters of such cases could pertain to a certain group or individuals and definitely not the whole student body, but it just worried me a little. My highschool senior at Dartmouth returned home after about 3 months or so due emotional distress due to discrimination. Is this also the case in Columbia?? If I am chosen, I would definitely go, but just checking :)

Just about 60% of this year’s freshmen class self-identified as a student of color. Plus, you are in NYC, one of the world’s most diverse cities in the entire world. If you are apprehensive about being discriminated at Columbia, I am not sure where else to recommend you go to school in the US. Sorry to hear about the senior at your HS. Hopefully, despite the recent bad press Dartmouth has been getting, it is just a few bad apples ruining what is otherwise a fine school. With almost 30,000 people from all over the world studying at Columbia, it all seems to work with minimal, if any, discrimination.

Thanks!
