Does anyone know if GS admits students without any college curriculum on their back? I have been out of HS for 2 years to work and support my family. During High School I had a 3.54 unweighted GPA with AP classes, etc. I know that the website states that they do accept those without any college credit, but from what it seems everyone who has gotten in on these eboards have all been transfers. Does GS admit very few only High School graduates? Also, if an applicant is borderline (as I would imagine I would be b/c of the mediocre HS Record) do they offer provisional admission? (ie >3.0 GPA to continue on after first semester)

This is the latest email I received.
It is going to be a long 2 weeks....

Dear Cory,

Your application is currently under review and you can expect your decision in the next couple of weeks. Our decisions are made on a rolling basis and can sometimes take longer than the anticipated 4-6 week mark, but all decisions will be sent by July 15th.

Missed the phone call yesterday morning so called admissions earlier this morning for the result of their decision. Got the fedex acceptance packet this afternoon (California).

Anyway, anybody looking for housing too? what kind of apartment/house/etc are you guys going for? Please let me know if you need an roomie! Individual room/ Share a room/ Living room... doesn't matter to me.

Good luck to all those who're still awaiting decisions.

If it helps, I transferred my application from CC since their email said that I should apply to GS because of military service. Had to do an interview, and received GS decision a week after.

es four> i'm from the south bay, what about you? i haven't submitted the housing application yet but probably will later today. so far i haven't taken an extensive look into housing options. anybody care to share what theirs are?

CT> it seems like most admitted applicants get a phone call before the packet is fedex'd standard overnight.

CT: Yes, I was overnighted a package which I received the following day.

doubtfool: I live in LA. I also have not looked extensively at housing, but what I do know, is that I will need University housing. I cannot see myself being able to afford a place on my own otherwise. I have my fingers crossed.

es four> a 3br/2bath goes for about $2500, which seems pretty close to the $800+ per individual for university housing right? anyway, i only recall an admissions officer saying something like GS students housing options disclude dorms, so it's pretty much apartments?

doubtfool- The main reason I would hesitate to live outside of University housing is that I do not know the city. I would not want to get stuck in a bad area or really far from campus.

Hey gang. So I was just accepted off of Stanford's waitlist, and they're offering an absurd amount of financial aid. The thing is, if money were no object, I think I would prefer Columbia. But, alas, money has its ways. I asked the same question on the transfer board, but what the heck am I going to do?

aneece, stanford for sure. i live in that area and would gladly swap places with you! and yes, stanford's got serious $ for stuff like scholarships that would definitely make it almost a free ride. congratulations.

I have sent in my spring grades...
How likely is it that my admission will be rescinded after failing to maintain my GPA? I've got two B's last semester, which doesn't sound so bad, but I just feel that I wouldn't have been accepted if they considered my final grades.

As for housing, I've read that students who apply for housing after July 10th will be placed on the waiting list. For more details: Columbia University Facilities - Housing - Apply for Student Housing
If you're going to share an apt on your own, you should have no trouble finding it. Try craigslist. The problematic thing is that everyone is always looking for an apt or a job in NYC, so timing is v.important. Good luck ;)
