Columbia essay

Is it okay if the essay turned out to be 2 and a quarter pages long, single-spaced? And if so, I would print it out and attach the essay to the general application, right? I really think that 90% of the information I wrote in the essay is meaningful and necessary. Please inform me of what I should do or if I am not in harm's way with the essay length.

I would definitely not single space the essay. You must remember that the admissions people are reading hundreds of essay in a relatively short period of time. You want to make your essay as "readable" as possible both in content and format.

almost everybody single spaces

I would definitely cut out the 10% you say isn't necessary. . . and then I would have someone else read it and cut out another 40%

however, can I print the essay and attach it to the application booklet? And if so, do you know of any cases where an applicant who was admitted greatly exceeded the 1 page limit to maybe 3 pages or so?

my columbia essay was about three pages long. i did the online application (much easier way of applying than paper...and it's easier for the office of admissions, too), so i just uploaded the word document. it was double-spaced, and it worked out for me since i was accepted. =) don't worry about length. as i remember it, there was no word limit, so use it to your advantage. although six+ pages might be overdoing it...

My essay was single spaced and was under 500 words. I was also accepted. Essays can be of all lengths and be successful as long as they are unique.

2.25 pages single-spaced is very long. . . about 4.5 pages double-spaced

I think the look of a neat, single, and single-spaced page for the essay is the way to go. This is you presenting yourself to the admissions people. You don't want to sprawl all over the place.

Mine was maybe a hundred or two words more than 500. . . but it was less than a page single-spaced.

Online is easier: I agree. It keeps things neat, too. Sending it in is instantaneous. You don't have to go to the post office at all or get there by the time the post office closes.

Am I just blind or is there no Columbia app up yet on the website? Or is the essay the same every year?

Do you just use the common app essays?

no don't use the common app essays. . . it is topic of your own choice

write whatever you want. . . the topic doesn't change
