Columbia GS Fall 2018 Early/Regular Decision

Thanks! I’m debilitating on whether I should accept, defer or decline because of the massive tuition cost.

Same here. I’m unsure when we’ll receive our financial aid packages. Do you happen to know if we get it after we complete our reply form? Or would we receive it beforehand?

I was planning on waiting to receive my financial aid package before completing my Reply Form, but I’m unsure if it works that way.

ACCEPTED! I am so, so grateful. When is the deadline to submit the acceptance reply form?

Haven’t heard anything. Was feeling confident, now I’m not sure lol. Congrats to everyone that’s gotten accepted so far

Nevermind my previous comment! I just found out that I can submit my reply form after receiving my financial aid package!

Were you able to see the Planned Enrollment Form Apply Online tab in your student viewer?

On the admitted student portal, it says “In order to determine your financial aid award eligibility, our office must be informed about your plans for enrollment.”

So I’m assuming, we’d have to complete the reply form before we can complete the form. However, I do believe we’ll receive our financial aid package without doing so immediately. I just contacted my admissions rep, so hopefully I can set up a call with them to clarify some things. I’ll post it here, if anything!

When I attended an info session on campus, the person stated that we usually would receive a financial aid package about a week after acceptance.

For those of you attending, you guys taking out loans?

@pixielated It’d be great if you keep us posted if you get any further info.

@GoldenState1 to be more accurate, financial aid packages arrives approximately 1 week after all required financial aid forms like FAFSA are officially completed, not the acceptance letter date.

I think most people will have to take out loans unless they are already financially well-off or they are one of the lucky few that get selected for the PALS scholar grants for underrepresented minorities.

The “Financial Aid Package” for GS actually includes any subsidized loans and unsubsidized loans. So technically, it has to be paid back anyway. If the remainder I have to take out in loans is over 20k, I would honestly just consider deferring or declining. I can complete my BBA degree in another program I’ve been offered entirely debt free with my tuition, book and travel expenses covered. I still have to take into account loans I will have to take out for graduate school so being in extreme debt for an undergraduate program isn’t particularly pragmatic at all.

It’s disheartening that even though GS is entirely part of Columbia and the Ivy League, it’s not need-blind like all the other undergrad schools in Columbia or other Ivy League schools. While they gave a brief explanation about the reserved endowments - GS also does not fully reveal their financial aid stats in comparison to other schools, which really raises suspicion, questions, and doubts.

@vidoll I know exactly what you mean, unless I get PALS scholarship its most likely Cal for me, there’s no way I’m taking out $60k+ in student loans to finish my undergrad.

Ive been told that they do admissions based on last name. My last name starts with an S, and my buddy’s an R. Does this make sense to anyone? I ask because he was emailed Friday about an update for his grades, and I received my email this morning.

If this sounds like a dumb question, please disregard it, as I am currently in the stage of anxiety about admissions.

My last name starts with a W

You applied by the 3/1 deadline ?@GoldenState1

Yeah, my app was completed on 1/26

ACCEPTED!!

Congrats to everyone who got in! I got accepted too!!! See you all in this fall!!

is anyone coming in from Cali? Specifically the bay area?

I just received an email saying that they would like to interview me… is this a bad sign?

Hi guys, I know it’s a bit late but I’m checking in as a transfer! Congratulations to everyone who got accepted  I haven’t heard back yet – would this mean that my chances of getting in are extremely low?
