Did you apply 11:30 pm EST?
Are you waiting to. hear from any other schools? Could you send a screenshot of the rejection so that I can mentally prepare myself?
Yup!
No update
Okay then just checking. I hate that you are waiting!
I think with nontraditionals it’s harder to compare stats because we have such a diverse background but happy to share if it helps at all.
stats:
3.9 gpa with an upward trajectory since I had not so great grades to start due to life events, took a break came back and had to work to bring them up.
Volunteer at a suicide prevention hotline as a crisis counselor, I work full time, and have been a full time caretaker for my older brother who was homeless and struggles with mental health issues since 2013 financially, and emotionally. I helped my mom get off her feet after the divorce with my father and open a bar.
Being honest and open instead of listing accomplishments was my focal point and only way I could “lean in” during the application process. Hopefully that makes sense and gives some insight !
Havent got any update I applied 16th Feb. Does anyone in same situation? Waiting for the update?
I got in! I did not receive an email but decided to check my portal anyway. The update showed up at 5:00 pm EST.
@Columbia-Tricia-2024 Thank you for sharing your story. You definitely deserve the acceptance from Columbia! Did you attend a community college or a four year uni? Also, did you get a financial aid offer? Please do let us know! Once again, congratulations my friend! Are you also waiting to hear from other schools?
Omg it’s not comming out still xD it wears me bloody off
29 years old, 4.0 GPA, 30 credits (and counting), former professional ballet dancer, union organizer, Director of Outreach for Los Angeles Ballet, and I’ve had variety of management positions in retail, banking, and hospitality.
I’m still trying to figure out the financial aid situation. I submitted my CSS profile but on the admissions financial aid portal it looks like I need to apply again for institutional aid.
I think after my mind clears from the general excitement of getting accepted I’ll be able to navigate the portal better.
I’m an international student so no FAFSA for me sadly.
Update:
I logged back into the portal and saw something related to financial aid but I haven’t checked it out yet. I’ll update tomorrow.
My stats aren’t anything impressive.
HS gpa: 3.0 out of 4.0
College gpa: 3.9 out of 4.0
Attended the top university in my country studying Management. I can’t remember the first choice concentration I put for Columbia, I think I put Financial Economics followed by Business Management since business management is more of a minor than a major.
Cambridge music theory exams: grades 1-6 with merits and distinctions during elementary and high school.
International
Hispanic
First Gen
Financial aid required
Worked full time in accounting while studying full time
Did not submit SAT exams
College clubs:
Student council - VP
Management student association- created and lead
Nontraditional Student Org - created and lead
Other hobbies:
Taught financial literacy classes voluntarily on evenings
If I think of anything additional later I will update.
I agree with your point about being open and honest. In my essay I blatantly stated that I come from a family that did not value education and that played a role in why I took the nontraditional path.
Nuthin yet for me…
Same here Idk why there’s no status update on my page. When did you apply? I did it on 16th Feb
Accepted! I’m so in shock, but very excited!
Congrats! What time did you get the result?
Hi! I got the email at 2:26 pm and looked soon after.
To be fair gap year transfer students like me (not really non traditional) are probably the reason why we have to wait so long this year lol
