Absolutely not. On top of that I am slightly amused/offended that you wrote "Barnard College, Columbia Univ." Barnard College is not in Columbia U like SEAS is for example, its its own college with its own admissions and its own rankings....as a rule of thumb, if you can apply to both at the same time, they arent related.

You're forgetting that back in 1975, Columbia College was still men-only. (It wasn't until 1984 that CC became integrated - unbelievable, isn't it? Gotta love Columbia for being so ahead of the times. ;) ) So she couldn't have applied to both of them because Barnard was where all the Ivy-caliber women had to go at that time.

No I am not forgetting that, the thing about applying to both was in reference to nowadays. It doesnt matter what "caliber" this woman is, it is not considered a legacy...sorry.

Thank you very much for your help!
But is there an official announcement before they release the result? Besides, is it through the emailing process as well? How can I check it out? Using my online account?

the dates are a bit iffy on this though, its usually before the stated dates =p but the rest are correct. as far as I know there isn't a place for you to check decision on the site, only app stat.

[] State or Country: NY

[] Ethnicity: Korean

[/ul]Other Factors: I applied for financial aid--my mom is convinced that that's why I wasn't admitted, since other people at my school with lower stats were admitted, (my town is very wealthy.) I just say, "Whatever, Mom." Columbia is one of the best universities in the world--I'm not surprised that they didn't take me. General Comments: I know this is very late, but congrats to all those who got in! You all are very impressive people.

Columbia encourages everyone to apply for financial aid whether you need it or not and admission is need-blind and i'm sure from your discription that you dont actually NEED any financial aid so that wasnt a factor at all.

As for the people from your school with lesser stats who were admitted....maybe they had better ECs or were from an underrepresented minority (yes, i hate to admit it but i think that your biggest setback was that you are korean)....also, it doesnt seem like theres anything spectacular there...dont know if living in five diff. states really counts as a hook.

Haha, I know and accept all that. My mom was just being irrational by trying to figure out why I was deferred. I was just like, "Yeah, okay, Mom, be weird like that." Sorry if my FA joke seemed kind of snarky--I only thought that it was funny that my mom was thinking like that. And people at my school had better scores, connections to admissions officers; some were URMs, etc. Again, I wasn't surprised at all that I didn't get in--I wasn't that strong of a competitor in the first place. I admire all of the people that got in, and I don't put myself in the same category as them.

[li] Gender: Male[/li][/ul]Other Factors: Co-Captain of Swim Team, Editor for newspaper, President Math Club General Comments: Such an awesome person.. He's so creative and has won lots of awards for essay contests, academic competitions, and some other randomness. His dorm is gonna be right across from the Columbia pool. He's so lucky, and I'm so jealous!

1)achoo, I doubt they got in with worse stats than yours without some big hook

2)"most definitely" is also somewhat of an exaggeration. Like with most colleges, the show of interest does give you a slight boost- good if you are borderline- but it doesn't do much else
