I got waitlisted at both these colleges and would like to know, if I could only choose one, which college would I have a better chance at getting off the waitlist. I do not the stats for each but I know that the number varies. But, given these two, which do you think would most likely take an Asian male who wants to pursue astrophysics/CS?

Columbia underadmits and then lets hundreds of kids in from the waitlist…

that is what happened last year and is again expected this year…

Keep in mind that both schools invite many, many more onto their waitlists than they will ever have room to take. Why? So that they can fill in holes created by those who choose not to enroll. Since nobody here knows how many “Asian male(s) who want to pursue astrophysics/CS” each school wants, offered admissions to, and will yield it is impossible to give you guidance on which is a better bet for you. If you are interested in both schools more than any other options that you have, then stay on the waitlist of both.

Jamie,

That seems quite high. May I ask where you’re getting this info?

JamieBrown’s comment is patently false. I know for my class, no one was admitted off the waitlist. JamieBrown for some reason repeats this lie about Columbia’s waitlist on every CC forum

Hmmm… As far as chance, I’m not sure. The astrophysics part will definitely help since there are like twenty people there majoring in it.

However, I have a friend (if you go there, look out for Josh Speagle He’s a genius) who guys to Harvard for Astrophysics and he’s absolutely loving it there. I think You should definitely stay on the Harvard waitlist (why not both?) because Harvard’s program is simply better (as far as I know).

Go with your heart, mate :D

I will be staying on both waitlists but just wanted to know on which one do I have a better chance of being accepted off of.
