Columbia University '13 EARLY DECISION

One of my teacher recs says "Not Yet Received/Processed" as well, but how do you know that they're both submitted?

what do you mean the application website says they're both submitted? what application website??

I was actually in the same position a few days ago. Just ask your teacher to fax another copy; they should receive it within the day. You should probably hurry, assuming you're doing ED.

You might want to call them to make sure; they're really friendly. You just give them your name, and they'll tell you what they've received and what not.

I've been annoying my friends a lot lately with this ED paranoia/stress. Anyone else here facing this problem where people around you want you to just shut up already? haha

^ I actually hate when my Columbia ED application comes into a conversation. The anxiety is already killing me!!

i know!
actually I hate any kind of college discussion at this point, because I always begin to express my opinion in terms of Columbia and then I remember that I may not even get in.. which is horrifying.

ME TOO ALEJIS! every time I think about college, I think about Columbia specifically... I even accidentally start talking like I'm already in, and have to amend myself. it's horrible. D:

I can't decide which is worse, deferral or rejection. Wonderful that my chance of either is far higher than my chance of acceptance.

i know. on one hand, if you're rejected, you know its not the place for you. it wasn't meant to be. you get over it. if you're deferred, there's that slight chance that you will still get accepted. enough to distract you while you fill out those other apps. but there still is that possibility... how bout we all just get accepted.

Okay, I called them today. They said they have both recommendations but it might just take a while for the website to update.

And I do the exact same thing as you guys! I seriously have told my friends that they have to come visit me in New York, then I'm like, "Well, if I get in." And I hate how everyone's like, "You'll get in, don't even worry." But they don't even know what the competition's really like.

Honestly, I have things planned already, like what I'm going to get everyone for Christmas next year (different Columbia merchandise for each member of my family) and I'm seriously not buying any more clothes here so that I have more money to buy clothes "when" I move to New York. It's horrible I know!! But I can't help it. I NEED COLUMBIA!

The bright side, in less than 3 weeks I will know one way or the other (well except if I get deferred, which would be horrible... April is SOOO FAR AWAY).

"And I hate how everyone's like, "You'll get in, don't even worry." But they don't even know what the competition's really like."

DUDE, HOLY CRAP.
they drive me nuts. I love how they are so supportive and believe in me, but it's like YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. I feel like they are going to make it worse if I don't get in.

haha I'm always like, "well yeah, but I have to think of other ways to eat because the meal plan isn't enough blahblah, and I need money for going out into the city and taking the subway" .... "i mean if i get in of course!"

that honestly is the worst. they have NO idea. today i caught myself. i almost said.. "yeah there aren't any classes on fridays so we always have a three day weekend" but then i realized... i don't go to columbia. not yet.

and then they say, "yeah i don't know why you wouldn't get in, you'll be fine." AHHHHHHH

hahahahah I almost said the exact same thing about the 3 day weekend a couple of days ago.. oh man

"if you don't get in, then I don't know who will!"
...plenty of people with better stats? obviously?

yea the horrible part is that my school isn't so great, so everyone sorta thinks on the school level, and since im one the top students, they assume that i must be brilliant. sucks because they don't consider the fact that everyone else in the country kicks the crap out of my stats >.> so it's always, "OO if anyone can get in, it's you!!!" yea right --

Yeah! I hate how optimistic everyone is…then they call me out for being pessimistic, but I’m just being realistic :'(

I posted this in another topic, but no one's replied, so I guess I'll give it a go here:

I had my guidance counsler fax my first quarter grades in, but I gave her the number on the College Board website (212-854-1209). I just realized that this number is different than what is listed on Columbia's website (212-854-3393) under "Contact Us", but it is a correct number for the Transfer Admissions and Combined Plan Program Admissions. Everything is in the same building, so I don't imagine that this would be much of an issue, but I want to be sure.

Is this a problem, and do I have to send another copy to the correct number, or will they be able to sort it out? Thanks.

I was trying to convey the difficulty of getting accepted to Columbia to my public HS counselor. When I said that the acceptance rate was under 10%, he replied, "Well, you're in the top 5% of kids in the country, so why are you even worrying?"

smacks head

chupathingy<3

ab41215: I would e-mail or call them just to make sure, but that's just me.

haha that's great reasoning from your counselor thebeef, you are lucky to have him. :]
I can't really criticize my counselor because my school sends a lot of kids to big schools and I'm sure she knows what she's talking about us, but she has no idea who I am.. so yeah :] going to a big school sucks sometimes.

Thank youu thank youu whoever to whoever mentioned 1st Quarter grades had to be sent in because I totally didn't see that. But I guess the admin. officers aren't reading during Thanksgiving break :)
Does anyone know if senior grades are a big deal though?

i actually just called to check to see that mine were received. i know they were sent from my high school, but when i called, they said that when the receive them, they don't distinguish the 1st quarter grades from the transcript. so they don't know for certain if they have been received. the admissions lady said that if you know they were sent, you're fine, and that they most likely have been received.
