oh lol I'm stupid nov 10th already passed so they have all the stuff except the midyear report

omg guys.... I took my sat for the final time in november and do you think it will get to columbia in time for the decision????? I am applying ED please Answer Me!!! I am Flippin out right now

Look on the website. Usually they tell you the last date it's ok to take the SAT.

I have a question about AP test scores...there was no place to put them in on the application, do you need to have the college board forward them if you want them to see it? Will they look at it? I've only taken one, US History, but i did well so I would like them to see my score just to add another helpful element if possible.

for the interviews,
is it less likely for an international to get an interview.
I'm from Vancouver, Canada......

hpl629, about your ap scores, your school should've provided with your marks. For instance, I am an IB diploma student, and my counsellor told me that she had enclosed a copy of my IB predicted grades. So your school should've done the same if it offers ap program.

yeah, for AP it should have been sent by your counselor..at least mine counselor sent them in with the transcript.

i applied ED... but i haven't received my Columbia ID in order to check my status.. is that bad?

Did you check the PDF of the first part of your application? It's supposed to be in the top right hand corner.

yea, they email you ur ID AND its found on the top of your pdf app...thats odd if you haven't gotten it yet :(, just call admissions and find out what's up. GL

Senior year first quarter grades for ED?

I've been doing really well all through high school, taking the hardest possible courses and getting really good grades. However, for my first quarter of senior year, I've taken as many AP's as I possibly can (which is more than I could before) and a lot of my A's went to B's and I don't think I'm going to send in my first quarter grades. My guidance counselor says you don't have to send them in on your own, but that sometimes the college calls and asks for them. Anyone know if Columbia usually does this, and if so, if your senior year grades are really that important, especially if they've only gone down due to an increase in rigor in my courseload?

"is it better to get As in non AP courses or Bs in AP courses?

to get As in AP courses, of course"

hpl629, they are not as important as your junior and sophomore year grades... don't worry, i'm in the same position... i've maintained a pretty high GPA throughout most of high school as well, but then first quarter, i received 3 Bs (all from AP courses) and 3 As (from regular accelerated courses)... my GPA was a 3.4... really bad, i know... so i decided not to send my 1st quarter grades

my guidance counselor says that colleges usually call for 1st quarter grades only if a student with a low GPA has improved his grades in some remarkable way that they would be interested in knowing... also, keep in mind that if your essay, SAT scores, and extracurricular activities are good, then you should hopefully be alright... we're both in this together...

this is a bit silly for me to ask, but will i be receiving a confirmation letter from columbia stating that they received my application?

You guys know that they want quarter grades for ED, right?

I even called them to confirm, they want them because semester grades will be too late for evaluation. If you read the secondary report you'll see that they want quarter grades.

so you recommend that i take that risk and send them, even if they do not reflect my overall high school performance?

It's not recommended, it's required.

It's like sending in the Mid-Year report, but it's quarter instead of semester.

Taken straight from the Secondary Report:
"Please send a copy of first quarter grades or first trimester grades for Early Decision applicants."

My grades are pretty bad, but I'm still sending them. Better safe than sorry.

Let's hope my counselor included my current grades...

I applied ED, and I was wondering since my grandfather went to Columbia is that considered a legacy app? Will it even help my chances?

about the mid-year report...
"If you are offered admission under the Early
Decision plan, we expect you to maintain the
same curriculum which you were pursuing at
the point of admission. You must request
permission from the Office of Undergraduate
Admissions should you wish to make any nonelective
course changes. You must submit the
Mid-Year School Report and eventually a final
transcript. Your academic performance will be
monitored and evaluated through the end of
the senior year."

they don't say to send it in for quarter grades!

Seriously, did you READ what I said?

I said it was on the SECONDARY REPORT.

ok but my guidance counselor said they call and ask for them WHEN they want them...so your school will send them for you if they call. at least my school does that. but electricrunner, thanks for the advice about the whole grades thing. i'm glad i'm not the only one!
