i told them i was going to major in russian or russian regional studies...they deferred me.

I have been reading this forum for a month prior to ED decision. Columbia was my D's first choice, not necessary mine. For whatever reason, there was nothing more she wanted than to get into CC. As you could imagine her disappointment when she didn't get in. She found out before the ballet class she was teaching. She made it through the class, then she cried in her car for .5 hour before she came home, with me on the other end of the phone. When she came home she read well wishes on the Face Book from a group of 9th graders that she's a peer leader to, which brought on even more tears. She then fell asleep in a fetus position on my laps. Looking at her I know the adcom didn't see her for she is, a great daughter and sister, a mentor to young kids, a beautiful dancer, and much more. She has not slept on my laps since she was a little girl and I wish I could I make everything right for her again. But this is something she needs to do on her own. Frankly, I am a bit relieved because now I know she is going to have many more choices this Spring.
Congratulations to everyone that got into CC. You should be very proud of yourselves. For those that got deferred/rejected, there is still Princeton, Harvard, Yale...Good luck.

gulag, the history major and concentration require you to pick a specialization area, so you can be a history major who specializes in Russian history--in fact, I'm taking Imperial Russia right now with Prof. Wortman; I'd recommend it for those of you who'll be here next year (Speaking of, congrats, good luck in the next round, and sorry to everyone who found out today).

hmmm, thanks bing. do you know how much russian history and russian regional studies differ?

Congrats to all acceptees!

And to those deferred/rejected..stay positive--I know it's hard, but you WILL end up where you belong. :) You're Columbia's loss anyway.

Good luck everyone!

Wait, how do people get over 4.0 in Unweighted GPA. I thought the point of UW was to base everything strictly off 4.0.

Karot, I got a couple A+s that made it higher..I guess I'd be 4.0 if you didn't count those. My school counts A+s as 4.33.

Ah, that makes sense.

wwkkim, if you don't mind me asking..what was your hook? you are an international student with pretty low stats, so i was just wondering. nevertheless..congrats on your admission.

I'm just curious. I was looking at the Columbia web site, and it looks like the admission rate is much higher for the engineering school than for Columbia College (24% VS 10%). Does this thread include acceptances to both schools? Could be a little misleading if it does.

Also, it looks like last year the ED admittance rate for the Engineering school was an amazing 45%.

I am utterly shocked.

My stat is GOOD ENOUGH!!!

that was last year
for seas, # of applicants increased by 51%
so the ed rate for seas is probably actually less than that of like upenn seas or cornell engineering

that is because people realized it is 'easier' to get into seas than columbia college.
