Columbia Vs. Cornell

If it came down to you getting accept to both which would you pick?...The school in the vibrant city with shopping malls galore where trainscan take youu eevrywhere or the school with the most beautiful serene setting. Would you pick the church looking large school or the Greek architecture school with a moderate amount of students?

I wouldn't hesitate for an instant in choosing Columbia.

Ditto!.....................

definitely definitely columbia. i'm not even bothering applying to cornell. why would i want to live in ithaca?

So Authentic, back when i was applying to schools i was much in the same position. I wasnt sure whether i wanted Cornell or Columbia because their engineering schools both had aspects that appealed to me. I liked the rural/serene surroundings that Cornell had; coming from houston i thought it would be nice to live in an environment like that. However, when i visited both schools and really got to know what i was dealing with i did a total 180. Cornell may have been really beautiful, but driving 4 hours out there and hanging around in Ithaca made me realize there was a degree of isolation i didnt want. I mean, its certainly an interesting place, but I just couldnt see myself enjoying that environment for more than a couple months, let alone four years. Columbia, on the other hand, wasnt nearly the congested mess that i expected it to be. Aside from the lack of completely natural surroundings, it was in many ways just as relaxed as Cornell, if not more (esp. the engr school). In any case, i strongly suggest you visit both schools and honestly ask yourself what you want your next four years to be like. Just my two cents.

gub; Ithaca is actually a beautiful serene place to live; I would be thrilled to Cornell

But then again....no trains to take you where you want to go; no Lincoln Center theatre; or Madison Square Garden; Or even Soho shopping malls; sigh

I geuss you're right Gub
R3volut1on I totally concur with you

I can only handle beautiful and serene for a month at a time. and then i would probably start to feel claustrophobic, if that makes any sense.

claustrophobic?....Not really^^^LOLOLOL......i think you mean Nostalgic..OR Nostalgia

no, i meant claustrophobic. like i'm trapped in this small isolated place. i've lived practically out in the middle of no where for a few years of my life already and thats how i felt.

I don't think you would associate the word claustrophobic to a place like Ithaca or any town for that matter......Claustrophobia is more related to being in a small car or a really narrow tunnel......How about you take a trip to Ithaca && see how it is......

Hahahahaha...

SoAuthentic, why'd you even bring up this topic?

i'm well aware of the definition of claustrophobic. i told you it probably wouldn't make any sense. but that is the only way i can really describe it. it's not like i'm physically confined to a tight space or even having panic attacks but it still seems to kind of fit how i feel being trapped in a small isolated town. maybe someone from new york city just doesn't understand? but oh well, there is no point arguing about it.

While i wouldnt quite describe it as being "claustrophobic" i can relate to what gub is saying. I think i experience something similar, except with me its more like im cut off from the world or im left behind or something. lol, its kinda weird i know.

Vesalvay anything you write from now on is blind to my eyes

the others...yeah i geuss I can relate also to what you mean by your claustrophobia......not the same transitioning from another town...&& I can't say I understand because I lived in NY all my life but I get where you're coming from

lol did u just ask a Columbia Board if they would pick Columbia? hmmm

Columbia Board doesn't necessarily mean Columbia is above all institutions on the applicants list........
LOL

It does if ur asking a Columbia board full of Columbia students if they would go to Columbia.

w/e tho

The title just caught my eye n then i realized it was on a Columbia board.

Ok Mr. I'm going to Cornell But Let me check out a columbia board..LOL....no but I was just curious.....keen eye though

haha I saw it under "new posts"...I'm bored alright! :)

Cornell vs. Columbia would differ between majors IMO. I don't know tooooo tooo much about Columbia but I'd say Cornell is better in things like Hotel, ILR, Engineering, ect...so it's not a straight forward thing.

yeah....believe it orn ot...I'm going to Cornell's school of Hotel administration for graduate...i wanna own a hotel right. But first I have to go through Columbia economics or NYU stern
