columbia vs. dartmouth

i got accepted to both as a trasnfer. any advice?

I got accepted to Columbia today also. Come to Columbia! We can be friends.

Seriously though, New York City vs. New Hampshire? Choice is clear! :)

that is the credited response

unless you're really into the whole frat scene :)

To the OP, Columbia vs. Dartmouth is of course much more than just NYC vs. NH. Also consider things such as programs, majors, student bodies, internships, whether it fits your career plan, etc. Nevertheless, location and whether you actually want to live there--neighborhood or campus--is definitely a major factor. It'll be several years of your life.

Academically they're both great, of course. If you hate city life, don't go to Columbia.

Just occurred to me...

Here's a big difference if you're borderline on where to go:

Dartmouth is on a quarter system
Columbia is on a semester system

I am transferring to Columbia from Drexel, which is on a quarter system. I HATE the quarter system. You start school very late, end school very late, and take three sets of midterms and finals every year. I'm in school until JUNE 18! If it means anything, if you want to spend a lot of time in New Hampshire while everyone else is done with school, then Dartmouth. If you would prefer a more normal schedule in Manhattan, then Columbia.

Well, you start in October-ish rather than August.

It's definitely not an advantage to start so late. You will be sitting around doing nothing while all of your friends at other schools are taking midterms. It's depressing. I didn't start until the end of September.

Psst, I'm trying to talk this kid into going to Columbia.

I'd rather be sitting around doing nothing than taking midterms. How's that depressing!

I'd rather be working and taking midterms than sitting around at home alone. Also, Dartmouth kids take three sets of midterms every year! That IS depressing.
