Columbia vs. Yale

haha CJ1995, calm down buddy. NO I didn’t get the crime thing from the video (great…I knew I shouldn’t have posted it on here cuz I knew I would give ppl like you heart attacks, I’m sorry)

If you don’t know that New Havens is one of the most dangerous cities in America, there is a thing called Google. And A LOT of ppl who goes to yale admit that the new havens is not the ideal place to be…thus yale’s good “school spirit” cuz everyone is forced to stay in school and participate rather than going out to nyc and explore

you can argue that new york is dangerous too, but it is a cosmopolitan, and like all the big cities out there (houston, chicago, los angeles, etc.) there are crime. But the distinction from New Havens is that if you’ve got street smart, you can manuever new york fine (much of the city is safe, especially the area immediately surrounding Columbia, and by street smart I mean not falling asleep on subways at night, venturing above 125th street, taking strolls down central park at 3 A.M, etc.) its all good.

and uh, hunt, yeah? the location of the school is one of the most important things to consider…and I doubt anyone would rate new havens above new york in anything, except crime rate…and boring-as-hell-ness

wjb ma’am, haha, nope, I in fact didn’t find the video til a few weeks ago, long after I decided Yale wasn’t the right place to me. It was just a little video to lighten up the mood haha, glad you found it funny. And I haven’t taken the core yet, as, you see, it says Columbia FIFTEEN under my sn. Looking forward to it tho :D

okay yeah all that was kind of biased because I personally don’t like yale that much, but if your choosign between yale and columbia, consider what i’ve said tho, it has some objectivity to it.

okay so i guess only harvard is perfect. lawl.

Boy, you must be the pride of Columbia admissions.

^ hahahahhaha loved that post. Not really I’m just not a big fan of Yale lol

Although perhaps stated a bit inartfully, I think collegeftw does express the key difference between Yale and Columbia. Yale is much more insular than Columbia–for good and bad. I think it’s mostly good. Yale has tons of activities, plays, music, etc. on campus, and people really think in terms of their residential colleges as their community (almost family). Most people who go there really love it. Columbia, on the other hand, is more outward-looking, focusing a lot on the city, and especially on working at internships in the city. The dorms are (in my opinion) far inferior to Yale’s in terms of creating a sense of community on campus. Most people who go to Columbia also love it.
Academicly, they are both great, with Columbia having a required core curriculum, and Yale having distributional requirements–something that might matter to some people.
I can certainly imagine people who would like one better than the other for valid reasons.
But to choose Columbia out of an idea that New Haven is more dangerous would be dumb.

subject, I agree with you more or less, I just really hate it when people are like oh I’m going to go to Yale because its more “prestigious”…then its like what’s ur definition of “prestige?” and they’re like…oh idk college rankings? facepalm

I mean like I completely respect ppl who prefer Yale for logical reasons (like hunt said, the residential college system)

sorry for the “inartfulness” Hunt? …

w/e yale and Columbia are both great schools
