Combining Bioengineering and EE/CS?

Next year I'll be attending UCSD, which is known (among other things) for its BioE program. I've always been interested in medicine (though I have no plans to go to med school) and BioE seems to combine that well with my interest in engineering.

However, I'm equally interested in computer science and electrical engineering, and would be interested in possibly working for a tech firm in Silicon Valley after 4-8 years of higher education.

My question is, would I be better off getting an MS (I plan on pursuing the BS/MS combined program at UCSD) in Bioengineering or Computer Science and Electrical Engineering?

I'm worried that if I get a BioE degree from UCSD (which I'm inclined to, considering UCSD is well known for BioEng), I'll be at a severe disadvantage if I ever decided to try and find a job at a tech firm (ie Google/Microsoft etc) compared to having a EECS degree.

On the other hand, I was planning on more than just 4 years at college (which I could technically complete my BS/MS at UCSD in), so what about getting a BS in BioEng at UCSD and then getting another BS in EECS somewhere else afterwards?

Thanks for the help!

It sounds as if you are trying to cover all of your bases but you might risk appearing indecisive. From what I’ve been told, having an MS is beneficial if you pursue a biomedical engineering degree. I’m not sure though why Google/Microsoft would be interested in a biomedical engineer. Perhaps you should start out in general engineering and see whether your interests tend to gravitate toward CS, EE or BioE.

True, to be honest I doubt I would be having this dilemma if UCSD/San Diego wasn’t such a bioeng/biotech hub.

The CS I’ve self-studied is mainly JavaScript, CSS3 and HTML(5) - all for Web Design. At the moment I think I would be best off sticking with EE (and possibly integrating CS somehow ie as a minor) for the BS and MS. If I do eventually decide to work in the BioEng/Biotech field I think I should be able to find a job with an EE degree.
